This weekend is the Edmonton Fall Home Show, and I’m so excited to be part of the Notable Nighstands challenge! Come see how I upcycled two old nightstands into nightstands fit for both a parents’ and kids’ room.. and how you can bid on them this weekend in support of Habitat for Humanity.

The challenge was to find two nightstands at our local Habitat for Humanity Restore and transform them into something special.

Here’s the first nightstand I found for $20:

It’s your typical old 70’s piece in a heavily shellacked dark walnut tone.

Using some amazing Rust-Oleum Consumer Brands Canada products, here’s the nightstand now:

Don’t you love this beautiful shade of blue? It’s Rust-Oleum’s Painter’s Touch French Blue, and you can see how I got the aged effect by watching the video at the end of this post.

I sanded the top of this piece and stained it with Varathane wood stain in Carbon Grey.

Here’s the second nightstand I found for $10:

To transform this piece into a bedside table fit for any unicorn lover, I used a combination of paint, wallpaper and washi tape:

Spray painting this white with accents of Rust-Oleum’s Rose Gold spray paint gave this nightstand the perfect base for some wallpaper and washi tape accents. Sealing everything with VARATHANE® Triple Thick One Coat Clear Finish keep all of the paper & tape from lifting. You can see how I did this by watching the video at the end of this post.

I love these subtle unicorns on the edges of this piece!

If you’re local to the Edmonton area, please stop by the Edmonton Fall Home Show this weekend – October 20-22nd, 2017 – and bid on my nightstands in support of Habitat for Humanity. You can find more details on the show right here.
