Now that the interior of my new work studio is done, I thought it was time to do a mini makeover on the exterior! Come have a look at how I created a little sitting area full of colour on my studio deck.

This little house used to be our home until we built Our DIY House on the same property. Now, this garage-house is my studio where I work and design! You can read more about that here and take a tour.

Here’s how the back deck of the studio looked last week:

And here’s how it looks now:

This sweet little sitting area in navy blues and coral pinks has become a cozy spot for me to take my work outdoors this summer or to watch my kiddies play on the swing set that’s just across from this deck.

I really love this colour scheme, and what inspired it all was this beautiful conversation set in grey resin wicker from The Brick. I was initially drawn to the lovely, curvy lines of these chairs and their wicker look, but then soon also fell in love with their navy blue cushions. This patio set has sold out very quickly, but here is another resin wicker patio set from The Brick that has navy cushions, and here’s another petite conversation set that you could use to create a sitting area like mine.

Using the navy cushions as my initial inspiration for my scheme, I then shopped for some fabric at my local fabric store to sew some accent pillows. When I found this watercolour fabric in blues and coral pinks I knew it would be what inspired the rest of my colour scheme for this space! I sewed the fabric into a couple of pillows, and you can learn how to make your own professional looking piped & zippered pillow cases right here.

Flowers and/or greenery are a must for any outdoor space, so I bought some inexpensive annuals with my navy blue and coral pink colour scheme in mind.

I created a little window box for underneath the studio’s window using lobelia and begonias, and I used the same simple flower pair to make a couple of pots for either side of my conversation set:

On the table that came with this set, I put a gold lantern that I found at The Brick in store along with a coral coloured potted daisy and my blue camping coffee set. Behind the table is a lit faux birch tree that’s from my Christmas decor collection, but I love using it in summer for easy mood lighting too.

Anchoring everything is the Morris Stone Snow Indoor/Outdoor area rug from The Brick. I loved its boho pattern as soon as I saw it, and it’s such a great size. It’s very durable and looks great – I’ll be tempted to bring it inside to display in our home for the winter!

With this outdoor area complete, I love that I have another option to relax outside this summer. The bold colour scheme makes me smile, and I can’t wait to see all of these flowers grow over the season!

Now tell me: What do you think of this navy & coral outdoor space?
