Do you love more traditional styled furniture but you’re wondering how to make it look more modern in your home? I had the exciting opportunity to work with a couple of beautiful sofas from The Brick to help give you some ideas on how to style sofas with a more traditional look.

Traditional furniture is generally more ornate looking than its modern counterparts. You’ll often see details like tufting and carving on a traditional piece, and traditionally styled sofas are often low to the ground with curved or round legs.

I personally love the look of a traditional sofa. To me, it speaks of history, of memories and it looks so warm and inviting!

Both my formal sitting room and our more relaxed family room have tufted sofas, and I love how they look in both spaces. I think there are a few ways that you can make a traditional sofa look less “old fashioned” in a room, so let me show you how in this video:

The two sofas featured here are the Julia Chenille Sofa from the Brick and the Grey Hazel Chenille Sofa from The Brick. Both look quite traditional in different ways, and I was really pleased with how we made them look both modern and inviting in this space! I think both of these design options put a fun, contemporary twist on a traditional look.

Both of these durable and well-made couches are manufactured in Canada which is a huge bonus. By purchasing products made right here in Canada, we’re helping to support our Canadian economy which I think is fantastic!
