Make Healthy, Homemade Juice

Have you ever tried making your own juice? I’ve always wanted to give it a shot, and I finally had my opportunity this past week with the help of a Kenwood juicer from HomeSense. Juicing is a fabulous way to get a whole lot of fruit + veggie goodness in your diet, which is just what I need as a busy mama who admittedly eats poorly when life gets wild. Let me share with you how easy it is to make your own healthy juice with a couple of my favourite recipes!

I’d never used a juicer before this past week, so I had no idea what to expect. Did the process take forever? Was it hard? I was pleasantly surprised with how simple juicing is and how easy it was to make a juice from pretty much anything I had on hand in the fridge.

I’m also excited to let you in on a little secret: launching September 15 until quantities last, the very first HomeSense Privé event will bring the best-in-class brand names in kitchen and small home appliances to select HomeSense stores in Canada for unbeatable prices. Click here to see where the event is launching near you. This would be a great chance to grab your own juicer, or another appliance to make life easier like a mixer, espresso maker or a commercial grade blender.

To celebrate the event, I’m giving away a $100 HomeSense gift card for you to spend on your favourite small appliance at HomeSense! Scroll down to the bottom of this post to enter to win.

To make my DIY juices, I used this robust Kenwood Excel Juicer from HomeSense. This is a really solid machine that can juice almost anything I throw at it! It’s really simple to use – all you have to do is plug it in, wash and chop your favourite fruits and veggies…

Almost instantly, your ingredients are shredded, squeezed, and poured into a pitcher and ready to drink.

I simply experimented with a variety of fruits and vegetables until I had a taste I liked. You can mix and taste the juice after you add each ingredient if you want to be experimental, but here were a couple of my fave recipes:

Simple Green Juice

  • one cucumber
  • 3 stalks celery
  • 1 small head romaine lettuce
  • 1 apple

Harvest Bounty Juice (AKA Everything-in-the-Fridge Juice) (makes 4+ cups)

  • one cucumber
  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 apples
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cup cherries

Simply wash and chop all of the ingredients listed, place in a juicer, and go for it! I like these DIY juices served over ice – yum.

  1. It has been a long time since I juiced. Like when I was in high school. Lets just say that’s awhile ago. LOL! So I don’t know exactly what appliance I would buy. A new decorative Kettle maybe. I’m not sure.

    Love you youtube Chanel!

  2. Would totally buy a juicer. I typically buy fresh squeezed juices already from our store in town and it gets costly. Would love to try making my own.

  3. I would love a juicer as well! Do you find there is a lot of waste of the non-juiced fruits & veggies? Do you cut off the ends of veggies or throw in everything at once? 🙂

  4. I have tried juicing and love beets, apples, carrots and spinach in my juice! If I win I would love to get a new juicer as mine is at the end of its life soon!

  5. I would have to check out what they have at the event but a juicer is one of the only appliances I still need. Although I would love a waffle stick maker as well.

  6. I’ve always wanted to buy a juicer for some time now because I want to use more ginger and perhaps put it into morning smoothies.

  7. My toaster throws the toast – at first this was of some entertainment value, but I think about replacing it often…especially when the toast hits the floor.
