Summer is a time for our family to relax… and enjoy some fun adventures like camping in Our DIY Camper and heading to the beach. I decided to decorate our mantel for the summer with a “summer adventure” theme in mind, and I came up with this lighthearted design!

I’m so excited that the Seasonal Simplicity series is back again; and this time it’s to celebrate Summer! Today I’ve joined up with a talented group of bloggers by sharing a beautiful summer mantel or vingnette with you all! After reading my post, make sure to check out all the other DIY summer mantel decor inspiration at the bottom of this post.

For my summer mantel, I decided to try something more asymmetrical than I usually do. I’m always a sucker for symmetry, so it took all of my willpower not to do the usual here. I moved my DIY wood clock over and placed my DIY “adventure awaits” artwork beside it – I thought it was such appropriate art for our summer ahead!

Then, I filled the rest of the mantel in with objects that made me think of our family and of summer like faux grassy plants (on hand), a galvanized “D” for our last name (from Michaels a few years ago), some whitewashed candlesticks (from The Brick), a blue vase (from Michaels), some coastal rope candle holders (from my local Co-Op), a straw hat, a dip-dyed tassel (from Michaels), a blue tin camping mug (from Amazon), and a white lantern (from Ikea).

I also made this oh-so-quick little wooden & fabric boat to add a little bit of coastal fun to the mantel. I simply found a scrap piece of wood and glued a BBQ skewer to it with a hot glue gun. Then, I cut some scrap fabric in the shape of a sail and flag, and glued those to the skewer to make a boat shape. I think it’s such a cute little element for our summer decor!
