If you’ve been following along on my blog & YouTube channel, you’ll know that we’ve been making over my parents’ master bedroom in their new lake house over the course of 6 weeks as part of the One Room Challenge. This week, I finally get to share with you the finished rustic traditional lake house master bedroom! Thanks to The Brick, some other fabulous sponsors, and my hard-working parents, we got the room done on time.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane, shall we?

On week 1, my parents’ master bedroom looked like this:

We started right at the beginning! I made a mood board for the general feel of the space, and you can find that here. We ended up deviating a little from the original mood board, but we still finished with the basic look.

On week 2, this room was dry-walled and looked like this:

On week 3, we shared with you the flooring and paint choices for the space.

On week 4, we got the best news – we have an extra week to finish the challenge! We also finished painting the bedroom and it looked like this:

On weeks 5 & 6, we cladded the ceiling with Stikwood, hung the light fixture, an got to work on the trim and flooring:

And TODAY, I finally get to share the finished room with you!

Here’s what this rustic traditional lake house master bedroom looks like NOW:

The wall colour in this room is Hazy Trail by BEHR, the ceiling is clad in Hamptons Stikwood, the fixture is by Feiss and was sent to us from Build.com, the laminate flooring is from Divine Flooring, and all of the furniture and non-handmade accessories are from our friends at The Brick.

Don’t you just want to snuggle down into that cozy bed and watch the lake through that giant window?!

You might recognize this traditional, white bedframe from the guest house makeover we did last year. I thought this bed – the Bridgeport Queen Bed from The Brick – was the perfect bed for this room too. It’s a great value and a timeless shape.

I made the sign over the bed as a gift for my mom, and you can find that tutorial right here.

We found an incredible 820 thread count white sheet set (you can never go wrong with a good white sheet set!) & Mongolian sheepskin pillow in store at The Brick, and we paired it with hand sewn pillows in floral and plaid fabrics for a rustic look.

You all know I love to mix and match bed frames a nightstands, and when my parents saw these stunning Calistoga Nighstands in Dovetail Grey, they thought they’d be the perfect colour and style for their lake house bedroom and I completely agreed. We also found all of these tabletop accessories at The Brick in store, and these gorgeous church-style windows were found there, too! They were our favourite accessory find for this room.

Speaking of the nightsands, their gorgeous bigger brother – the Calistoga Chest in Dovetail grey – was the perfect piece for between the garden & ensuite doors. These beautiful, beachy blue candle holders were another in-store find at The Brick, and I’m really loving how the soft greens, blues and white mix together in this serene retreat.

This room is large enough to have a designated seating area by this gorgeous lake-view window, so we decided to create one with a couple of dining chairs and this accent table we found at The Brick (you can see more of their accent tables right here). We’ve ordered some custom swivel chairs from The Brick to go here, but meanwhile I’m using my Caroline Wing Chairs and I think they look great, too. Once our custom upholstered chairs and ottoman arrive, we’re going to decorate this space for the Christmas season and I hope you’ll come back to see that look!

Just outside the garden door is a balcony that my parents can enjoy when it’s a little warmer outside. For now, the stunning lake view flanked by evergreens will be such a nice picture to wake up to!

Here’s the current, frozen and frosty view out of that giant window:

We decided to leave the window bare with no coverings so that we can take full advantage of this beautiful view, but in the summer as the days get longer my parents will add some sort of window treatment.

I love how the driftwood coloured beads in this chandelier mimic the other furniture in the room, and how the black colour contrasts with the white textured ceiling.

This large & warm Loft Off-White Rug keeps my parents’ feet cozy, and I’ve accented it with a couple of sheepskin rugs for the winter months. When you decide to put laminate or wood flooring in a bedroom, it’s a great idea to find a cozy area rug (or two!) to help the space feel warm.
