Watch my video below to see the step-by-step directions on how to make these soy candles three ways, or follow the instructions below:

  1. Set up a double boiler (or a DIY double boiler – I use an old milk frothing jug in a saucepan) with water to boil.
  2. Find some old containers for the candles (I used small wide-mouthed mason jars).
  3. Measure twice the amount of soy wax flakes as your container holds into your double boiler.
  4. Let the flakes melt completely. Add any colouring as needed (I added an old orange crayon to one of my candles to give it a pumpkin colour.)
  5. Meanwhile, place or tape a candle wick to the bottom center of your container.
  6. Once the wax is ready, remove it from the double broiler and add scents in any of these ways:
    1. Pumpkin Spice: 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp cloves
    2. Theives: 40-50 drops of Theives essential oil
    3. Lavender Vanilla: 20 drops vanilla essential oil and 1/4 cup dried lavender flowers
  7. Pour the scented wax into your candle container.
  8. Let the candles cool for 4 hours or overnight. Place them in the fridge if they’re in mason jars for faster setting.

Tools

  • Double Boiler (or a DIY double boiler)

Instructions

Add any colouring as needed (I added an old orange crayon to one of my candles to give it a pumpkin colour)
    5. Meanwhile, place or tape a candle wick to the bottom center of your container. You can either glue this with a dab of hot glue, or you can place it in the bottom, wrap the wick around a pencil, and place the pencil across the top of the jar to keep it in place until the wax sets.
    6. Once the wax is ready, remove it from the double broiler and add scents in any of these ways:
Pumpkin Spice: 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp cloves
Theives: 40-50 drops of Theives essential oil
Lavender Vanilla: 20 drops vanilla essential oil and 1/4 cup dried lavender flowers
    7. Pour the scented wax into your candle container.
    8. Let the candles cool for 4 hours or overnight. Place them in the fridge if they’re in mason jars for faster setting
    9. Lastly, trim your wick down and enjoy!
