A Gold & Black Christmas and New Year’s Dessert Table

We’ll be hosting Christmas Day dinner at our house this year, and I’m so excited to have my family over to celebrate with us! I love decorating dessert tables to make parties and get-togethers extra special, and I thought it would be a lot of fun to design a beautiful and festive, sparkly dessert table for Christmas Day. This glamourous gold and black Holiday dessert table idea would also be beautiful for a New Year’s Eve party – just switch out the chalkboard message and you’re set! I’m so happy to have been able to partner with Ferrero Rocher Canada on this project. Not only do we love Ferrero Rocher (a delicious candy with a roasted hazelnut center, smooth filling, a crisp wafer, AND it’s all enveloped in creamy milk chocolate and finely chopped hazelnuts) in this house, but their glamourous gold foil packaging was just perfect for my dessert table idea. For this festive dessert table, I used an old dresser-turned-sideboard that I have sitting in our front room. I’ve had this dresser since I first moved out of my parents’ house – almost 15 years. It worked great as a dresser, but I really think it works well as a sideboard too. I thought it would make a great base for my glam Christmas dessert table with its deep ebony stain.

I used a lot of what I had on hand already (like I do for most of my DIY’s!) for this project. I think the gorgeous Ferrero Rocher trees really speak for themselves and set a beautiful mood for this table.

I bought a couple rolls of wrapping paper in black, white and gold, a couple spools of gold ribbon, and I had some fun:

The backdrop is some gold dot wrapping paper that I attached to the wall with masking tape. I trimmed it with gold sequin ribbon that I also attached to the wall with masking tape. I really think this cheap & easy backdrop sets the stage for the dessert table.

I moved over the chalkboard I have in our living room to the center of the table and free-handed “Merry & Bright” on the chalkboard to match the “Merry & Bright” wrapping paper I found.

I covered the shades of my crystal lamps with wrapping paper and tape to coordinate with the table. Easy!

The simple gold glittery banner I made for Little A’s Frozen party became a banner for this golden table.

I turned the barn wood container my friend made for me upside down to create a rustic stand for some homemade cupcakes and more Ferrero Rocher.

A smaller Ferrero Rocher tree stands at the back of the table elevated by an ice cream pail covered in gold sequin scrap fabric. I’m loving all of the gold and dots everywhere! It’s fun and festive.

Gingerbread cookies with snowflake icing

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, or family traditionally enjoys some “regulars” like these delicious gingerbread cookies my mom always makes. (I NEED to post this recipe – so yummy!) I put some on a gold charger, along with some butter tarts on another charger beside these.

Chocolate glazed German marble bundt cake

On a vintage cake stand behind these treats sits a marble bundt cake. This is my Grandma’s recipe that I posted about here, and I’ve added some chocolate glaze to make it extra special looking for our Christmas table!

I think that little details are what can make a space like this so special. Little wrapped Ferrero Rocher packages surround my centerpiece, and I’ve put little golden ornaments and pinecones around the table.

For more bling & detail, I made some glittery golden cupcake wrappers. Here’s how:

How to make glittery gold cupcake wrappers

  1. Cut the side off of a cupcake liner. Use it as a template and trace its shape onto some gold glitter scrapbook cardstock paper.
  2. Cut the shape out of the glitter paper; add extra 1/4″ onto one end for gluing.
  3. Use the cardstock shape to trace more shapes onto the rest of the paper (I could fit 6 wrappers onto a 12 x 12″ piece of cardstock).
  4. Glue the ends of the wrappers together with a glue gun. Voila! Pretty, sparkly cupcake wrappers fit for any party!

I simply can’t wait to share some treats and quality time with my family this Christmas as we gather together and enjoy eachother’s company.
