A Rustic Glam Kid Friendly Christmas Tree + Unique Holiday Crafts

Published: Dec 2, 2016 · Modified: Sep 30, 2019 by Christina Dennis · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads · Leave a Comment

I've always loved Christmas trees. My mom has at least one photo of me staring lovingly at our lit Christmas tree when I was little. There's something so beautiful, romantic and peaceful about Christmas trees, and I'm so excited to be decorating a whole bunch of them this year as I keep the tradition alive with my own three daughters!

We usually only have one tree, but this year I'm thrilled to be able to decorate FIVE! There were be 2 at the Homes for the Holidays home I decorated last month, and 3 in our own home. I think our first tree is the most meaningful, though, because it's in our main living room and it's the one that the kids are helping me with. With the help of Lee Valley, let me share with you our simple, rustic glam kid-friendly Christmas tree plus some fun & unique kids' crafts to go along with it!

Since we now have a sectional in our living room, I thought this little corner was the perfect spot for our tree this year. We'll be using our flocked Christmas tree elsewhere, so I brought out our pretty little traditional green tree and we set it up in our living room.

I love the idea of having a tree that is kid-friendly, so this one features all non-breakable ornaments, and some fun, unique decorations that we made together! I've always loved crafting at Christmas time, so it's been so fun to continue that tradition with my three girls this year.

Aren't these log cabin & log barn ornaments from Lee Valley the cutest?! Not only do they add to the charm of our rustic glam tree, but they were also a fabulous Christmas activity for the girls and I to do. We love looking to Lee Valley for unique DIY ideas and crafts that we can't find anywhere else.

The log cabin and log barn ornaments are easy to assemble with some glue. My 7 and 5 year old loved making these with me!

These ornaments are so cute and unique, plus they're made in Canada which is a huge bonus. We were able to make both ornaments as a fun Christmas activity in one afternoon together.

Another fun feature on our kid-friendly tree is this amazing touch control for our Christmas lights from Lee Valley. You simply follow the easy instructions to connect it to your tree lights, and then you can turn your lights on or off by touching the beautiful brass ornament.

My kids think this ornament is so magical, and I love how it matches our turquoise, gold, white and silver tree so perfectly.

We also got to make a beautiful DIY snow globe to sit beside our tree. It's the prettiest I've ever seen!

We used the Lee Valley Flower Aquarium to make it, along with a pre-made Christmas pick, some glitter, and some water.

The neat thing about this flower aquarium is that we'll be able to reuse it in the Spring and Summer when we want to display our garden blooms in a unique and beautiful way.

    DIY Snowglobe

For this year's Christmas snow globe, I found a pre-made Christmas pick with a cute little deer and some greenery, and inserted that into the rubber holes on the flower aquarium base. In the spring, this is where we'll insert our flower stems.

Then, we filled up the aquarium with some glitter and water, and then placed the base over the opening. When we flipped the whole thing, we had a lovely snow globe to admire that we placed by our tree.

The girls and I are just thrilled with our rustic glam living room tree - it's so unique and beautiful! I hope they'll sit and stare at it this season like I did when I was little.
