We gave our tiny cabin an exterior makeover on a budget and I’m so excited to show you! Read on for some DIY curb appeal inspo that doesn’t have to break the bank.

This past May, I introduced our latest project to you: the Tiny Lake House renovation! Then, I answered some FAQs you had about the cabin, and in June I shared our demolition progress and what we found behind the cabin walls.

Since June, my husband Sean has completed all the rough-ins in the cabin like plumbing and electrical wiring. We also had a sewer tank installed, added new windows & doors, and hired a company to install spray foam in the cabin. With Sean’s truck breaking down and things being exponentially more expensive + harder to find than last year, this has been a challenging renovation.

SO, I’m very excited to say we’ve passed all of the rough-in inspections and we’re FINALLY ready to drywall and finish this place! PLUS?! We’ve made over the cabin’s exterior and I get to share our first official BEFORE & AFTER of this little house. Hooray!

Here’s how the tiny lake house exterior looked BEFORE:

And here it is NOW:

We still have a lot of landscaping to do, but I love how this tiny lake house now has so much more curb appeal!

Here’s what we did to pull off this exterior makeover on a budget:

  1. Installed new shingles in a slate colour
  2. Installed new windows and doors (budget-friendly selections in stock at Home Depot Canada)
  3. Scraped, sanded & power washed the old wooden siding
  4. Painted the siding in Behr Alpine Trail
  5. Used hardwood boards like this to make wide white trim around the windows and doors
  6. Used MicroPro Sienna treated lumber (gifted) to create a new porch and railings

I’m obsessed with how the warm brown colour of the porch plays with the deep green colour of the siding. I still want to paint the front door a mint green colour, but I do love it in white too!

Watch my video to see how we did this exterior makeover from start to finish:

This makeover was just the boost we needed to keep going on the interior renovations. We hope to have a completed tiny cabin room makeover for you soon!

Tell me: What do you think of our tiny cabin’s exterior makeover?
