A Marble Panel Backsplash for Our DIY Kitchen

Patience is a virtue for life in general… and for decorating. I completely believe in slowly and carefully piecing your home’s decor together by choosing every element with intention and only purchasing things that you absolutely adore. When we designed and built the kitchen in Our DIY House, we left the backsplash bare because I wasn’t 100% sure of what I wanted there and I didn’t want to slap something up that I didn’t totally love. We were also on a budget and we couldn’t afford the beautiful Carrara marbles that I was picturing for the space. The backsplash has been bare for almost two years, and now I am just thrilled to say that we’ve found and installed the perfect backsplash for the space! Come have a peek.

Presenting: our vintage industrial kitchen with a new, gorgeous Carrara marble panel backsplash. I think the marble slab look suits our kitchen so well – I’m thrilled! The grey of the marble transitions the white upper cabinets to the black lower ones so nicely, and the smooth panel look is crisp, clean and classic.

At one point, I considered using marble subway tile, but I think that might have been too busy for our kitchen. The black, the white, the glass cabinets PLUS subway tile? It may have been a little too much.

The seamless look of this marble backsplash seems to blend right in to our kitchen. I feel like it was meant to be here!

This Carrara marble backsplash is from Prima Stone in Edmonton. It’s real marble, but it’s cut thinner and has a backing so that it’s less expensive and stronger than regular marble slab.

I was able to choose a marble that I liked, and then my husband and another installer put it up. (I’m super lucky because my hubby is an installer of this product!)

The cost of this backsplash is 30 – 40% less than stone slab and up to 60% stronger. Because of Prima Stone’s aluminium composite backing, the stone is resistant to cracking and it’s water resistant.

You don’t have to engineer your kitchen walls to hold up a giant slab of marble. These thinner sheets adhere right to your walls.

Plus, the seamless Carrara marble look is just downright gorgeous.

For maintenance, I’m recommended to use a neutral based cleaning product such as Zep Marble Cleaner.

After it was installed, I cleaned and buffed it with some marble cleaner and it simply shines!

I think the marble adds so much value to our kitchen and our home as a whole. It just brings the space to a whole new level of prettiness!

This is one of my favourite little spots in our kitchen. The curtains (tutorial & fabric link here) + the marble + the black & white = oh my.

If you live in the Edmonton area and you’re looking for a stone backsplash, check out Prima Stone. I’m certainly pleased with their service and product, and I’m so incredibly happy that we waited for the perfect backsplash material to come along to complete our kitchen. Patience is indeed a virtue.

I’ll share a video tour of our kitchen as it is now sometime next week, so please come back for that and subscribe to my new YouTube channel.

  1. Wow. Wow. WOW! It looks soooooooo great, Christina!

So classy, and I LOVE the seamless look!

Absolutely perfect for your kitchen! You really know how to pick stuff for your home! I thought your kitchen looked great before, but you managed to make it even more amazing. It really makes the white cabinetry “Pop”!

You’ll love this for YEARS, I’m sure!

    1. Thanks, neighbor! I am soooooo thrilled with the final look. I feel like this backsplash was totally meant to be in here. I agree that it really highlights the upper cabinets, and I think it feels really classic but still with a modern twist.

  2. You have such a beautiful home, and this kitchen is to die for! I love the dark cabinets and the bright blues and greens you incorporated. Pair those things with the back splash and this space is amazing. Can I move in?

  3. I have to be honest, you have too much going on in this kitchen. You have gold and silver finishes and then a white farm sink. There’s 2 different colors of cabinets and and the color of the counter does not match or complement anything in your kitchen. You should of put the White Carrera on the counter as well instead of mixing it up.
