A Day in the Life of a Work at Home Mom

Brought to you by Interac Association and TheCo

Since becoming a full-time blogger, people often ask me how I work at home with 3 young kids. I’m the first to admit that I’m no Supermom, but I do have a few tricks up my sleeve that help me make my hectic WAHM (work-at-home-mom) day a little easier. It’s definitely a challenge, but a bit of multitasking and flexibility goes a long way! With the help of Interac Flash® who’s sponsoring this post today, let me share with you a glimpse into what a day looks like for me and how I juggle mom life and work life.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I’d be making a living writing this blog, so I never thought I’d be qualified to write a post like this. But here I am, 8 years later, a legit blogger who is making a full time income doing something I love very much. Let me share with you how I make money blogging and how you can, too!Continue reading

After blogging for almost 8 years now, I’ve come to love a certain group of items in my office. They’re my “essentials” that help me get through the day-to-day (still fun!) work that blogging has become. If you’re interested in becoming a part time blogger or a full time blogger like me (it’s still feels weird to say that!), you might also love this list of blogger office essentials. I’m also sharing a little peek at the end of this post at what my office and me look like after a day of blogging. Come have a look!Continue reading

27,000 Subscribers in 2 Years: How to Grow Your YouTube Channel

27,000 YouTube subscribers. I don’t know if that sounds like a lot or a little to you, but for me it’s a very exciting number considering I didn’t know if I had “what it takes” to be on YouTube in January 2015.

Since I started my YouTube channel, my subscriber count and video view count has risen steadily every month. After year #1, my subscriber count was at 6,000. After year #2 – this past year – it was at 27,000. I realize success isn’t all about numbers (I’ve been blogging too long not to know that), BUT the subscriber growth on my channel has been really exciting and very motivating for me. Today, I wanted to share with you all of the things I’ve learned over the past 2 years on YouTube that have helped my channel growContinue reading

A DIY Wooden Clock + The Importance of Blogging Friends #12MonthsofDIY

This year, I had the pleasure of hosting a monthly challenge called #12MonthsofDIY. Each month, our group of 12 Canadian bloggers each made something out of the same type of material. It was such a wonderful challenge, and not only did it spark my creativity, but it made me realize how important it is to collaborate with my blogging friends. Today, let me share with you a recap of our #12MonthsofDIY challenge, what my favourite project was, and what I’ve learned about collaboration. Also, make sure to scroll down to the end of this post to see all of our favourite projects from the year!Continue reading

7 Things I’ve Learned After 7 Years of Blogging

Today is the 7th anniversary of my blog, The DIY Mommy. On this exact day 7 years ago, I wrote my first blog post on how to make a diaper cake. It was short & sweet, I took a photo of a diaper cake that my aunt made for me, I uploaded the photo and typed the instructions into my little WordPress blog, and hit publish. I was going to make a blog about making things for babies, and document all of the things that I made for my own daughter who was 6 months old at the time. I was 25 years old, and I was ready for a new outlet for my creativity. I was ready for a fun, new hobby that combined my love for sewing and crafting with my love for graphic and web design. If I would have told my 25 year old self that this hobby blog would turn into an almost-full-time job for me and be a source of income for our family, I wouldn’t have believed it! Let me share with you 7 things that I’ve learned along my 7 year blogging journey. Here are a few huge things that slowly turned my blog from a hobby into my career, and I also want to give you a gift at the end of this post for sticking with me through my blogging journey!Continue reading
