This video and post were originally published in February 2015, but I’ve shot a brand new video about this topic. Hope you enjoy!
Happy Friday! The last couple of weeks have been nuts with the flu descending on our house, so I’m pretty behind in the ol’ blogging game this week. I wanted to post this video a little later because I think I’ve posted a few too many lately, but I thought, “What the heck; I should share this today”. This is the answer to a question I’ve been asked a lot lately: “How do you do it? What does a day in your life look like?” In this video, I’m sharing with you my basic daily schedule as a mom of three girls aged 11 months, 3 years and 6 years, as a wife and as a DIY blogger.Continue reading
You guys!! I’m one of the three finalists in an exciting competition: Western Canada’s Next Home Stylist. If you follow me on any of my social media accounts, you’ll probably already know this, but I thought I would officially share it here and ask for your help today.
We just submitted our first challenge – a room layout and a mood board for an awkwardly shaped room – and if you like mine, can you please vote for me?
This master bedroom design and layout has a nod to the nautical, a hint of glamour and a whole lot of gorgeous texture – the perfect recipe for a restful room. Its infused with lots of soft whites, bright dashes of teal and navy, and accents of metallic gold and chrome. The rustic textures of the driftwood furniture and accessories in the room contrast with the shine of the metallic pieces and the tones of blue are a striking yet soothing touch.
DIY Project Idea: Lay some laminate flooring! Not only is it a fairly straight forward project, but there are some beautiful laminates available, including whitewash looks that would be a perfect fit for this room.
DIY Project Idea: Build a board and batten accent wall! A white board and batten wall behind the bed would be a beautiful addition to this room, and it’s an inexpensive and simple project if using MDF strips and having them cut at the home improvement store.
I imagine this room is for a young couple that needs a retreat after a long day at work or watching their children. The room’s king-sized bed is decked with white linens, and there is a writing desk placed in the awkwardly angled corner on one side that makes the most of this space. In the large nook of the room, a beautiful Nest Chair fits perfectly and offers the couple a cozy spot to read or sip a morning coffee.
If I win this competition, I’ll be the official spokesperson at the home shows this Fall in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. I’ll get to share some home decor tips and DIYs with a live audience, and this could really be a great way for my blog and my DIY & decor career to grow.
I could not even think to do this kind of thing without the support of my family and friends. Thank you, my dear hubby, for being such a supportive partner in parenting and career dreaming. Thank you, mom, for being such a fantastic example of a loving mother who also continues to develop her creative talents.
Thank YOU, dear readers, for continuing to read my blog and share my DIYs. Your support means more to me than you’ll ever know.
I’ll keep you posted on how it goes, and thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day tovote for me!
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage. Sometimes it’s easy to start focusing more on the kiddos than the hubby, but really love & marriage were what came first before those precious bundles. I made this simple Valentine’s day card for my hubby as I thought about how far we’ve come together over almost 9 years of marriage (in March!) and how many days we’ve loved each other.Continue reading
I didn’t write down and New Year’s resolutions last year and I kind of regret it. I know they’re cliche, they’re not usually successful and blah, blah, blah, but there’s something about physically declaring one’s goals that really helps to define a fresh, new beginning. I blogged about my resolutions in 2013, and I thought I’d revisit that idea for this year and do it again. Plus, I missed my annual reflective birthday post this past September like this one and this one. I hope you don’t mind me sharing a little bit of my personal struggles and wishes here today! On September 14th, I had the pleasure of attendingBlogPodium in Toronto. BlogPodium is Canada’s conference for design and lifestyle bloggers, and when I saw it come up in some of my blogging friends’ feeds this summer, I knew I had to go. It was my first time flying on a plane in 7 years (!!) and the first time I’d been away from my children longer than a day since Little C was born almost 6 years ago. It was a huge step outside of my comfort zone to go to Toronto on my own and attend this conference, but I was sure glad I did. Not only was it a much needed time of refreshing for me, but it was a tremendous day of learning and being inspired.
Today I’ve been nominated by the lovely Emily of Our House, Now A Home to take part in the Tour Through Blogland where bloggers have been connecting with eachother and sharing a bit about their lives and their homes. Emily is a DIY and interior decorating blogger who loves transforming a space keeping in mind her family and their needs. She loves to turn old pieces into something new (just like I do!), and refresh them to their old glory.Continue reading
Let’s play a game. It’s like “What’s in Your Purse?”, but for moms. Let’s play “What’s In Your Diaper Bag?”! I admit that I have a rather large diaper bag right now (it’s a big, brown weekender bag, actually), and I stuff it full of all sorts of things just in case we face any kind of emergency while my three girls and I are out and about. My nursery decor philosophy is “less is more”, but my diaper-bag-stuffing philosophy is, well… more is more. I like to be ready for anything!Continue reading
