Gift Guide 2015: The Tricky Techie

Welcome to day 2 of Gift Guide Week 2015! I’m putting together my favourite gift ideas for those hard-to-shop-for people on my list and sharing them with you this week. I hope you find these helpful as you finish your Christmas shopping this year!

Today, we’re focusing on that technology lover in your life. For me, this is my hubby and my brothers. Make a Counter Top Phone Charging Station & Tablet Holder from a Picture Frame

I have to say that being “forced” to be extra thrifty over the past year or two because of a transition to double-self-employment has been a blessing in disguise. It’s caused me to be extra careful with money and extra creative when it comes to finding solutions for problems. If I can make something new out of things I already have on hand instead of buying items, I’ll totally do it! Enter: this charging station & tablet holder that I made for our kitchen counter. I’ve wanted to create something to hold our phones and tablets while they’re charging (or while I’m using one or the other to view a recipe). This corner of our kitchen seems to be the spot where all of our electronics end up so I made a holder that looked pretty on the counter, but it’s still functional.Continue reading

Fun (Non-Scary) Halloween Snack Ideas for Kids

Halloween is this Friday, and my girls (aged 5 and 3) are all excited to dress up as Elsa and Anna and have their baby sister (aged 7 months) tag along wearing a little Olaf hat. While our family doesn’t like to take part in the scary or icky things that come with the day, we do like to have a little fun with silly things like funny looking monsters and pretend little ghosts. And of course my girls LOVE to dress up so we do go trick or treating!Continue reading

How I Draft Sewing Patterns (with My Intel AIO and Adobe Illustrator)

I love sewing clothes for my kids. It is just SO fun, and they always seem to love what I make (whether it’s a #FAIL or not). I’ve been asked a few times over the course of the last couple of years how I design and draft my sewing patterns (like the Elsa and Anna inspired dresses), so I thought it was time that I shared a few of my pattern drafting secrets with you. If you’re a seamstress or an aspiring clothing designer, you might find this process interesting and something you’d like to try! It took me a little while to get the hang of it, but it’s not too difficult if you practice.
