I’ve wanted to make a blanket ladder for quite some time, and I thought now was the time to try as we head into Fall. A blanket ladder is a wonderful way to store throw blankets by taking advantage of vertical space. Besides extra storage, it also makes a nice home decor item that you can decorate seasonally! Imagine cozy Christmas coloured blankets displayed for the Holidays?

Cut 4 pieces of wooden dowel to 14″ long with a hand saw (I use a Japanese saw) or a miter saw. Leave two dowels at 48″ long. I chose to leave my dowels their natural wood colour, but you could stain them with your favorite stain at this point. A dark walnut stain would look lovely with the copper coloured accents!

Using a pencil, make a mark 9″ from the bottom of one of the 48″ dowel pieces. Then mark 2 1/2″ from that mark. Repeat until you have marks for 4 copper pipe tees.Repeat on the second 48″ dowel piece.

Adding the copper pipe pieces

Repeat for the rest of the copper tee fittings – there are four on both of the 48″ pieces of dowel.

Assembling the blanket ladder

Next, apply epoxy to the inside of the horizontal parts of the copper tee fittings and slide the 14″ dowel pieces inside creating the ladder rungs.

Apply epoxy to the inside of the copper pipe end caps and slide them onto the ends of the 48″ dowel rods. Gently push everything in place and lay flat. You can wipe away any excess glue with an old rag. Let the epoxy cure for at least 24 hours before using the ladder.
