DIY Dress-Up Storage Bookcase Hack

February 18, 2017 By Christina Dennis 3 Comments

Do you have a child that LOVES dressing up? I sure do, and her name is Little B! We’re making over her bedroom, so one of the essential things I needed to put in the room was a spot to store all of her dress-up clothes. Let me show you how to take a bookcase and turn it into a cute little dress-up station for your child’s room. This is the easiest DIY ever, and I love how it turned out!

To begin, start with a plain bookcase that’s no more than 4 feet high. I used the Hawthorn Bookcase from The Brick because I loved the sweet wave detailing on the front, and colour was just right! The Brick has lots of bookcase options if you’re looking for something in a different colour or style.

Make sure your bookcase is safely mounted to the wall so that it doesn’t topple.

Now, all you’ll need to do is place one shelf near the bottom of the bookcase (store the rest of the shelves for later in case you want to re-purpose the bookcase again), mount a tension rod at the top (make sure to look for one that’s narrow enough for your shelf), and put sticky hooks on the side of the shelf to hang accessories.

I found a fun fabric bin that fit perfectly into the bottom of our bookcase for storing skirts, capes and aprons.

That’s it! Isn’t this the easiest and cutest DIY ever?! Little B is thrilled with her dress-up center, and I love that all of her dresses and accessories are organized and all in one spot.

Watch my video below to see me make this dress-up center in real time:

We are almost done giving Little B’s room a makeover, and I can’t wait to share the final reveal with you soon! Happy weekend, friends!

This is super cute, and multipurpose too – you could put just regular clothes in it if you wanted. I could totally see repainting a thrifted bookcase too. 🙂
