My Little C has graduated playschool this week and she’ll be headed off to kindergarten in the fall! She is thrilled and I am thrilled/scared. She seems totally ready and excited to go to school this year. I can’t believe how grown up she is! As a gift for her wonderful playschool teacher this year, we made this simple succulent mason jar present using leftover Hens & Chicks from my sister’s wedding favours. These plants are so cute and low maintenance, so I think they make a perfect gift for a teacher!

If you follow the DIY blogger scene, you’ll notice that I packed as many DIY blogger trends as humanly possible into this one project. This thing has it all – a trendy blue mason jar, baker’s twine, a printable label and tag, a gold chevron paper straw… the works! I feel like it’s a poster child project for all things trendy over the past year. (But secretly I love it all and I had all of it on hand, so… why not use ALL THE THINGS?!)

Here’s how we made this cute & simple teacher gift:

We filled a mason jar half full with rocks (for drainage), and then filled the rest of it with potting soil.

Then, we planted a Hen & Chick (Sempervivum) so that its bottom was flush with the mason jar top.

Next, I made a label and tag graphic, printed them out out cardstock and cut them out. You can download yours (in PDF format) for free by clicking the graphic below:

After that, we wrapped the flags around a paper straw and glued them in place, and wrapped the label around the mason jar and glued it.

We finished off this simple DIY teacher gift by tying a piece of baker’s twine around the mouth of the jar and tying a chalkboard label (found at Michaels) to that with Little C’s teacher’s name on it.

Our gift was ready to give! Little C drew a sweet card to go with our little gift.

Now bring on summer! Happy end-of-the-school-year, mamas!
