It’s the FINAL week of Outdoor Extravaganza, and me and my blogging friends are sharing some outdoor building and painting ideas with you today! I’m quite excited with how my simple building project turned out, and I think it’s going to look great on the new patio we’re building (more on that to come this weekend). Let me share with you how to build a simple, rustic log & reclaimed wood garden bench and make sure to scroll down to the bottom of this post to see some more building and painting ideas for your outdoor space.

This project is part of this month’s Outdoor Extravaganza hosted by the talented Shauna of Satori Design for Living. Make sure to come back tomorrow for a link party where you can share YOUR outdoor DIY ideas!

There’s something so wonderful about taking old, unused items and turning them into something beautiful and useful. In this case, I used a couple of logs from our log pile along with some vintage scrap wood I found at my aunt and uncle’s farm to make a rustic garden bench.

If you can find these treasures and have a nail gun on hand, this project is essentially free and only takes a few minutes to make!

All you need to do is find two large logs that are about the same height. Find 3-4 pieces of scrap wood and cut them to the length you’d like your bench to be. I was lucky because my wood pieces were a nice length for a bench already!

You could paint or stain your reclaimed wood, or leave it bare for a more rustic look. Mine were already painted this pretty distressed blue colour (perhaps they were from someone’s deck?) so I left them as-is.

Place and then nail your wood to the tops of your logs with a nail gun. It’s so easy!
