French Inspired Wardrobe Basics – Petite Curvy Mom Style

August 28, 2015 By Christina Dennis 2 Comments

I don’t know about you, but Fall always makes me feel like giving my wardrobe a once-over. I LOVE Fall clothes, and I can usually justify purchasing some new pieces each year because our Fall & Winter season lasts forever! You can wear sweaters, boots, and jeans for pretty much 10 months of the year around here. This year, I was inspired to give my wardrobe a bit of a “grown up” makeover. I’ll be traveling more and working more outside of our home, so I thought it was about time to top up the timeless, mature classics. I took my inspiration from the French (much like my Little C did for her back to school wardrobe this year)! Here are the basics I’m working on adding to my working mom wardrobe.

French Inspired Wardrobe Basics: Petite Curvy Mom Style

Black Knit Blazer – Perfect with jeans or skirts.

Black Pencil Skirt – Super cute with a half-tucked sleeveless blouse or button down shirt.

Black Leather Moto Jacket – Such a great classic that looks lovely over jeans or a dress.

Basic Blouse – You can dress it up with a pencil skirt, or down with jeans.

Oversized Tees in Basic Colours – These are great for over leggings and jeans or bloused into a skirt.

Skinny Jeans or Jeggings in Dark Denim and Black – Cuff them over booties for a sophisticated Fall look.

Tortoiseshell Glasses (I found mine at Zenni Optical) – So geek chic!

Black Ankle Boots – Sophisticated looking with a skirt or jeans.

Nude Ankle Boots – Adorable with jeans and big plaid blanket scarves!

Brown Riding Boots – These are such a classic that I wear almost every day in the Fall.

Black Patent Pumps – Fantastic with a skirt or black pants for a more business-friendly look.

The great thing about this basic collection is that you can make it more exciting with trendy accessories (think: DIY scarves, pretty jewels, a fun handbag), but these essentials will stand the test of time no matter what the trends. I’m realizing that I need to tackle my wardrobe like I do my home decor: build with neutral basics, and add in colour/fun with accessories. It makes a ton of sense!

Here are some mixing & accessorizing ideas for these pieces:

Petite Curvy Mom Style: Black blazer, lace top, jeans, black booties.

Black blazer + lacey top (in the arsenal already) + long necklace + jeggings + black booties

Petite Curvy Mom Style: Blanket scarf, striped tee, jeans, tan booties.

DIY Blanket scarf + striped tee + jeggings + nude booties.

Petite Curvy Mom Style: Moto jacket, burgundy scarf, striped tee, black jeggings, riding boots.

Moto jacket + burgundy scarf + striped tee + black jeggings + riding boots.

Happy Fall wardrobe prepping, mamas!
