How I Design a Room

I’m often asked: “How do I decorate my room? Where do I even start?!” Today I want to show you how I designed a lovely traditional living room (with a twist!) with the help of The Brick’s Designed2B custom upholstery collection. Also, make sure you head down to the bottom of this post to learn how to win $2500 in custom furniture for your own home!

If you have no clue where to start when you’re decorating a space in your home, I always recommend that you start by defining your style. To decide what your style is, use resources like Pinterest and Houzz to collect photos of rooms that you love. Once you’ve archived all of your inspiration images, study them to find out what the reoccuring themes are. You might notice that all of the photos you’ve saved have a traditional, symmetrical furniture layout. Or, maybe they all feature white or light coloured paint on the walls. Make a list of the features you are drawn to, and you’ll be able to pin down your style.

Next, it’s time to choose the large pieces for your room that anchor the space like sofas. For this “traditional with a twist” room, I chose to use a couple of boldly coloured sofas for an exciting surprise to my rather traditional room layout. With The Brick’s Designed2B collection, I was able to design my own sofas, accent chairs and ottomans to match my vision perfectly. With the Designed2B collection, you can choose from three furniture styles, add any of the collection’s accent ottomans and chairs, and pick from the 24 upholstery and 16 accent fabrics. With endless combinations available, putting together the living room of your dreams has never been so easy or affordable! In this room, the sofas are the stars. I chose a very traditional frame with a rolled arm, but made them unique with this beautiful teal fabric.

Finally, it’s time to accessorize! Since the sofas are the focal point of the room, I went with white and silver coloured accent pieces like these beautiful patterned ottomans and slipper chairs I designed from the Designed2B collection. A rustic coffee table and a pair of shelves styled with neutral accessories add some sparkle and personality to this living room. When you’re accessorizing your space, make sure to choose things that you love and that highlight your personal style.
