Our pink and shabby chic inspired bedroom makeover for my Little C has almost come to a close. Next Thursday, I’ll share with you the final reveal of the room as part of the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling it Home! I’ve really enjoyed making over my 7 year old’s room, and I think she’s enjoyed the process too. We’re also both really happy with how the space is turning out, and there (suprisingly!) haven’t many snags along the way. This past week, I worked on sewing some custom pillow covers and a shabby chic inspired duvet cover for Little C’s bed. Let me share with you how I made them, and how you could make your own DIY bedding too!

It’s no secret that I LOVE sewing, and when I have time to do it, it’s such a treat. For Little C’s bedding, I knew I wanted something that was custom and handmade. We also wanted lots of white, gold and pink to match the rest of her room makeover.

I ordered a lovely, yummy pile of fabric and when it came in the mail, it was all I hoped for!

From the top, they are: Tanya Whelan Zoey’s Garden Birdie White, Michael Miller Glitz Metallic Confetti Border Gold, upcycled white sheet, White Faux Llama Fur. I also grabbed some cuddle suede fabric in a baby pink.

To make the white ruched duvet and the main pillow cover, I actually ended up resizing a duvet cover that I had made a few years ago for our master bedroom. You can see it in this blog post from 2012! The duvet cover ended up being too heavy for our king sized bed, so I had it stored away. When I started thinking about how I would make some sort of ruffly, white blanket for Little C’s bed, I was suddenly reminded of this duvet cover. I marked it down from a king size to a twin size, and then I sewed it down. I also had enough of the original duvet to make the pillow cover too! To make the original duvet cover, I referenced this tutorial from Neroli Blossoms and used some inexpensive white sheets.

To make the throw pillows, I used my trusty, easy-peasy pillow cover sewing method and sewed one floral cover, one gold dot cover, and one faux fur cover for the bed. I had the ruffled pink linen cover already.

Once I placed all of these lovely pillows on Little C’s bed, the set didn’t feel quite complete yet. Instantly I thought of a heart-shaped pillow to go with some of the other heart-shaped elements in the room (which I’ll share with you next week)! I cut a heart out of the pink suede fabric, sewed it right sides together, and stuffed it with some polyester batting.

I think the mix is really sweet and it’s just the effect we were hoping for! Stay tuned next week to see how the room looks all together – I can’t wait to show you!
