One of my favourite things to play with lately is the use of texture in home decor. It’s something that took me a while to learn, but I can’t believe how a room can come to life by using lots of different textures in its decor. I love putting things together that contrast and complement each other – something furry with something smooth, something shiny with something rough, and raw wood with metal. That’s why one of my most favourite home decor styles is the modern glam look. Think “old Hollywood’ meets the clean + simple lines you see in more modern furniture designs. Let me show you some element ideas that you could use in your own modern glam living room design!
If you start with a sofa or sectional with crisp, modern lines in a neutral colour like this Zeke Sectional from The Brick, you have a beautiful, simple base to start building your design.
Fluffy pillows (I LOVE faux fur pillows almost anywhere!) and a cable knit throw add even more texture and luxury to the look, and the texture of those contrasts so nicely with smooth vases and table lamps as accents.
See how layering all of these textures can make a room look and feel so glamourous?
You can start with a sofa, and build your room from there. Just keep thinking about texture, texture texture!
Not sure where to start after you’ve bought a sofa? The Brick has come up with some gorgeous looks like this “Uptown Chic” look featured here that are great jumping-off points if you don’t have time to decorate.
I’m excited to partner with The Brick again to talk more about this Uptown Chic room, and have a look at this video to see how I incorporated some DIY elements into the room to take it to the next level:
