How to knit the blanket:

  1. First, knit a swatch to test your gauge – make it 20 st long and 20 rows high. Note how many stitches and rows you knit in a 4″ square. Decide how large you want your blanket to be. A standard crib blanket is 36″ by 52″. Use your swatch to calculate how many stitches you’ll need to cast on to your needle for the blanket’s width, and how many rows you’ll need to knit for the blanket’s height.
  2. Cast on your desired number of stitches with skein colour 1. Make sure you cast on an even number of stitches (you may have to add or subtract 1 stitch from your calculation to do so).
  3. Row 1: K1, P1 (repeat to end of row)
  4. Row 1: P1, K1 (repeat to end of row)
  5. Repeat rows 1 & 2 three times until you have 8 rows knit of one colour.
  6. Change yarns to a new colour. Continue in pattern as established for 8 rows.
  7. Repeat step #6 with new colours until you’ve used all yarn colours. Then, repeat colour pattern again.
  8. Continue in this way until you reach desired blanket length.
  9. Bind off loosely.
  10. Weave in loose ends with large darning needle.
