I feel like summer has finally officially started for our little family.
We've spent the last week and a half moving into Our DIY House, I spent last week helping with our church's vacation bible school, and we've had a couple days of rest.
I'm ready to celebrate summer with my girls! We get an awfully short time to bask in the warm weather here, so we have to enjoy every drop of sunshine we can.
That's why I fist-pumped and shouted a resounding "yes" when Michaels asked me if I wanted to take part in their Summer Adventure program. Sign a pact to cut down on at least 2 hours of screen time a day in favour of fun summer activities and crafts? Of course! I'm all for it.
This summer, we're going to cut down on our screen time and replace it with as much summery activities as we can! Want to join me? You can sign the Michael's Unplugged Summer Pact by clicking on the picture below:
I'll share some of our summertime kid-friendly activities and crafts here on The DIY Mommy (and my Facebook page).
Little C will also be joining the Michaels Passport to Imagination Crafting Camp for some crafty fun this summer. It looks like a blast - 2 hours of classes three times a week where kids can make crafts inspired by places all around the globe!
Want to join me in spending more time playing and less time "screening" this summer? Come sign the Michaels Unplugged Summer Pact with me.
What are your favourite activities to do with your kids in the summer? I'd love to hear your ideas!

This is a great idea! My kids love being outside riding bikes & playing ball hockey.
Unfortunately yesterday a neighbour reamed out my child and a couple of his friends for playing on the road because it is for cars and they can just go to a park where kids are supposed to play. We live in a cul-de-sac with a lot of other families with small kids - the woman has older children. (My children are not old enough to go to the park alone)
I'm not sure why I'm sharing all this - probably just to vent because it made me really mad. We want our kids out in the fresh air but apparently some people are so uptight that they'd rather the kids not be seen or heard. We live down the street from 2 very large K-9 schools I'm not sure what that lady expected moving into this area.
*sigh*
She threatened to take the kids ball and said she shouldn't have to look for them when she's driving and shouldn't be held responsible if one got hit. (It was a lovely conversation that I got involved in because she shouldn't have addressed the kids as she did in the first place since I was right there!)
Sorry.....this wasn't the place to vent. I totally support what Michael's is doing - thanks for bringing it to our attention.
That's frustrating, for sure! You'd think a cul-de-sac would be relatively safe for children to play in (plus it's nice that you can watch them). Oh, neighbors, hey? We have some crazy neighbors too!
