    Make a Recycled Tire Ottoman

Published: Aug 18, 2017 · Modified: Apr 26, 2020 by Christina Dennis · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads · 9 Comments

My good friends own a tire shop (OK Tire in Spruce Grove), and they were kind enough to give me an old tire to recycle into something new - a sisal wrapped outdoor ottoman! I love the beachy, boho and rustic look of sisal or rope stools, and this one is a fun DIY project made from an upcycled old tire.

How to make a recycled tire ottoman

It's bouncy but firm, so it's great to hold a tray of goodies like drinks or books, and it also works as a footstool or extra seating.

I love how this one looks on our new patio, but I'm actually going to be using it for an exciting deck makeover project I'm doing with Brookfield Residential. If you follow my YouTube channel, you might have already seen what I'm up to and I'll share more soon!

Here's how to make this sisal wrapped upcycled tire ottoman:

How to make a recycled tire ottoman

First, find an old, small tire and drill some holes around the center like this.

Next, thread some thick sisal rope through the holes in the tire to create a webbed center. I used some sisal rope from The Home Depot.

To create this knit / woven look, hand crochet a chain with about 8-9 rolls of the thick sisal rope. If you don't know how to create a crochet chain, watch the video at the end of this post for guidance.

How to make a recycled tire ottoman

Using a large glue gun and strong glue, start spiraling and gluing the crochet chain to the rope at the center of the tire as shown above. Use a generous amount of glue and press the rope down firmly until the glue cools as you go.

Continue spiraling the rope over the tire until you've covered the entire top and sides of the tire.

Your upcycled tire ottoman is complete!
