To update our Easter baskets from last year without spending any money, I decided to make a fun fabric scrap banner that I could wrap around our baskets. This is a very simple and fun project that would also be great for kids to try!

Not only is a banner like this a unique way to decorate an Easter basket, but it also looks wonderful as a wall decoration in a child’s bedroom.

Here’s how to make this boho inspired DIY scrap fabric banner:

Cut or rip 2 inch wide strips of scrap fabric. Then, cut the strips to about 7″ long.

Cut a piece of embroidery floss to the length you’d like your scrap banner to be. Thread a wooden bead onto the floss (I found mine at the dollar store), and tie it in place with a basic square knot.

Take one of the 2″ x 7″ strips, fold it in half, and then place it underneath the embroidery floss. Pull the ends of the strip through the loop you’ve created to attach it to the embroidery floss.

Thread another wooden bead onto the string and pull it beside the fabric scrap. Then, continue alternating fabric scrap pennants with wooden beads until you’ve made the banner the length you’d like it to be. I alternated two different fabrics to create a pattern. Finish the banner by securing a final wooden bead with a square knot at the end.

To accessorize an Easter basket with this banner, find an old basket and remove any embellishments. This one was from Walmart a couple of years ago, and I removed the original bow decoration.

Use a hot glue gun to adhere the banner to the top edge of the basket. I put a dab of hot glue underneath each wooden bead. You can tie the tails of the banner together to secure it.

We won’t be filling them up with much this season, but a book, a few candy eggs and a toy will make my girls very happy.
