My office / craft room is a DISASTER. I’ve been slowly chipping away at purging, cleaning and organizing it, and one of my latest projects is a storage wall above my desk. Today I’m sharing with you a fun and functional way to store craft supplies with hanging mason jars.

This is an adorable looking and easy way to store supplies like yarn, string, pens, brushes, knitting needles, glue sticks, ribbon… the list goes on!

Not only does this hanging mason jar storage system get craft supplies up and off your desk, it’s just super-duper cute to look at.

Here’s how to make your own hanging mason jar craft storage.

Supplies:

  • a 2 x 6 piece of wood or MDF cut to the length you require (I calculated about 4 inches length per mason jar)
  • paint or stain
  • 3″ size plumbing hose clamps (I linked to Amazon, but you can often find these at a home improvement store)
  • screws
  • drill
  • small drill bit
  • self-drilling screws
  • nail gun & finishing nails (or some other mounting system)
  • pint mason jars

Gather your supplies and adjust your hose clamps to be about the size they’ll be to fit around your pint-sized mason jars. I found my hose clamps at my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore for only 50 cents each!

Paint or stain your piece of wood. I used a piece of MDF, sanded it and painted it white.

Arrange the hose clamps on your piece of wood and mark where you want them to be drilled to the wood. I centered mine vertically and spaced them evenly on my piece of MDF.

With a drill and small bit, fasten your hose clamps as above to the wood with a self-drilling screw. My hubby did this step for me, and the self-drilling screw was the only tool that seemed to drill through the clamps! It worked really well.

Mount your wood to a wall with a nail gun and finishing nails on studs. You could also attach some picture hangers to the back of the wood and hang to a wall that way.

Place your mason jars in the hose clamps, and tighten the clamps as required to keep the jars secure. I like the look of having the top rings still on my mason jars.

I turned some of my jars upside down in the clamps, and used a lid with holes in it so that I could pull out string and yarn with ease.

  1. This is so completely adorable and so functional! I need something to organize my twine, I’m not sure how I ended up with so much twine!? So cool that you can turn the jar upside down and pull, yep, mind is blown!

  2. This is such a clever and inexpensive storage idea. I love how you positioned the jars up or down according to what they are storing. Now that is clever. i also love the cherry pastel colours. So pretty!

  3. This is so lovely and appeals to my highly organized side (which is, as of yet, not entirely visible in my home). I love the idea of putting knitting needles in one of the jars. Right now I have them all in a closed basket, but I prefer things out in the open and easily accessible.

  4. I am making something very similar. But, I am only make the pegboard. Is there a way to have the mason jars on the pegboard? That would be extremely helpful! I just love it too much to not include it!

  5. I have used plastic peanut butter jars to store nuts, bolts, etc. I like this idea for the craft room. Looks so nice. I was wondering what the zippers are for that you have tacked on the cork board below your mason jars?

    1. That’s just where she puts leftover supplies until she can decide where to use them next 🙂 Not sure where those zippers wound up… LOL
