Mood Board: Modern Industrial Basement Lounge

Basements are an often overlooked area that can add a lot of value to your home if you can renovate or update them. Take my friend Cheryl’s basement, for example. My friend recently purchased a beautiful older home for her family of 5, and she and her husband are spending time to give the entire thing a lovely update. Since it’s a bungalow, they need to use every inch of the home that they can. Here’s where their basement comes to play – it’s the perfect place to create their ultimate, dream lounge area for kicking back, watching TV, and hanging out with friends. I’m so excited to be able to work with Cheryl’s family and The Brick to help turn their plain basement area into an exciting and modern industrial lounge! Let me show you how it looks now, and a mood board with our vision for the space.

Cheryl’s done an amazing job of updating the main floor of their home so far. She has fabulous style with a vintage industrial edge. Here’s her living room:

The family’s basement is one of the last things they want to renovate. It’s a plain space with dated tan walls and some work needs to be done on the ceiling. Cheryl and her family want this to be a space where they can relax, watch a game, and enjoy being with each other.

Here’s how the basement looks now:

The plan for this room? The walls will be painted to match the rest of the home – a lovely warm, light grey shade. A DIY ceiling treatment will give the space some character, and with the help of The Brick, some beautiful new furniture with a modern industrial vibe will up the style factor in this basement lounge area. We hope to complete this makeover in about 6 weeks so that Cheryl and her family can enjoy their finished basement together this Spring!

The theme for this room will be “Modern Industrial” so that it flows with the rest of the home.

Here’s a mood board for the basement to give you an idea on the feel we want to achieve:

  1. Dodeca Accent Table from The Brick
  2. Trio of MOVIE AND FILM Patent Posters from Etsy
  3. Vintage Wall Clock from Amazon
  4. Advocate Mirror from The Brick
  5. Oakdale 3-Piece Linen-Look Fabric Left-Facing Sectional – Platinum from The Brick
  6. Swiss Cross Pillow from Etsy
  7. Tillie Pouf from The Brick
  8. Mongolian Sheepskin Accent Pillow – Dip Dye Grey from The Brick
  9. Knit Throw with Fringe from The Brick
  10. Mid-Century Arc Lamp from The Brick
  11. Bari Bookcase from The Brick
  12. Wall Sconce from Amazon
  13. Lovran TV Stand from The Brick

My plan is to help as much as I’m needed during the renovation, and help style the space in its finishing stage. DIYing is fun, but it’s ten times more fun when you can do it with a friend!

Come back in a few weeks for a peek at our progress, and I can’t wait to share the finished space with you soon.
