My 3 Favourite Grey Sectionals + Cheryl’s Modern Industrial Basement Lounge Progress

Secret: I used to not like sectionals at all. I used to think they were WAY too dowdy looking and much too big for any room. My view on sectionals has changed drastically over the last few years as I’ve been introduced to more stylish sectionals and realized how functional they are for a family space. Heck, I even traded in my two traditional sofas in our living room for a large, comfy sectional! My friend Cheryl is using a sectional in her basement, and I’m excited to share with you her modern industrial basement lounge makeover progress along with my 3 favourite grey sectionals from The Brick!

In case you missed it, my friend Cheryl and I are making over her basement into a modern industrial lounge. Here’s the mood board that features the style we’re going for. I’m working with The Brick to help make Cheryl’s vision for this space come to life.

Last week, we got together for a little painting party and painted her basement the same colour as the main floor rooms in her home – Grey Mist by Behr. It’s a light-medium warm grey that blends perfectly with all sort of accent colours. Take a look at it in Cheryl’s main floor:

The starting colour for the basement was this weird yellow-brown colour:

Here’s the Grey Mist paint going up:

… and that’s all I’m going to show you so far so that I don’t give too much away!

Stay tuned to see what it looks like after it’s been fully painted, furnished and styled. I can’t wait!

Cheryl chose a beautiful and comfy grey sectional for this room, and I think it’s a great choice. In my humble opinion, you can’t go wrong with a sectional in a medium neutral colour for any family space. It seats lots of people, it works for sitting or reclining, and a medium grey colour won’t show dirt or stains that easily.

The sectional that was chosen for this space is the Oakdale from The Brick:

It has traditional lines with ultra comfy back cushions.

Another sectional I’m loving lately is this stylish Gena sectional:

I think it has a mid-century modern look with it’s exposed wooden legs and simple cushions.

Finally, my last favourite sectional is the one we have – the Paris:

It has a similar feel to the Oakdale with its traditional lines and tufted details, but it has a slightly more modern look.

Which one is YOUR favourite?

Come back in a few weeks to see the final reveal of Cheryl’s basement makeover!

  1. I know its a makeover but why the criticism? “this weird yellow-brown colour:”
Someday Grey Mist will be a big faux pas. It just seemed snarky.
