It’s amazing how differently I feel about “nursery essentials” now with baby number 3 compared to when I had my first baby. There are some things that a new mama thinks she absolutely needs in baby’s nursery the first time around, and by the time baby 2 and baby 3 come around you realize that there are only a few things that a baby truly needs in their bedroom to feel comfy. Today I wanted to share with you my 5 most favourite nursery essentials that I’ve loved having for all of my baby girls.

A Simple Crib

A Sunny Woodland Nursery. This sweet nursery is decorated in aqua, yellow, blush pink and chocolate brown and features a ton of inexpensive DIY decor elements.

All of my baby girls have slept in this simple, no-frills crib that has matched all of their decor. It can convert to a toddler bed, but I haven’t even used that feature yet. When it comes to baby’s crib, simple and safe is all you need.

One Closet or Dresser

With all three of my babies, we had only one closet or small dresser. Baby clothes are so teeny tiny that you won’t need much more! If your closet or dresser is well organized to start with, that really helps too!

A Rocking Chair

This rocking chair means a lot to me – it’s been through all babies and one DIY reupholstery and paint job. I’ve rocked many miles with a baby in my arms in this thing, and it’s so nice to have a rocking chair in baby’s nursery for middle-of-the-night feedings.

A Place for a Monitor & Music/Sound

It’s nice to have a high spot like a shelf or the top of a dresser to place a baby monitor and a sound or music machine. We didn’t use a baby monitor until we moved to our big house, but I’ve always used either a sound machine or a music player in all of my daughter’s nurseries. They were life savers! All of my girls seemed to be really comforted by music and sound and it helped them self-soothe.

A Changing Area with Diaper Storage

Great change table storage

We finally purchased a change table when Baby B, our third baby, came along, but a place to change baby can really be anywhere. In our garage house, we used a cushy ottoman. Diaper storage nearby is a given, and something like a fabric bin that you can easily pull out is so handy.

Our diaper bin is filled with Huggies Little Movers Plus, and they’re now exclusively available at Costco in sizes 1-6!

We love these diapers because they’re so soft and absorbent with Double Grip Strips for a comfy fit that lasts. They have a new DryTouch LinerĀ® that I’ve noticed keeps Baby B’s soft skin nice and dry. They definitely help keep rashes away and move so well with my now-so-wiggly baby that’s always on the go!

Baby B agrees, and now she’s asking me to rock her in our good ol’ rocking chair. Of course I’ll take every snuggle that I possibly can – she’s growing so fast just like her sisters.
