My contractor husband answers your renovation questions

Published: Nov 29, 2021 by Christina Dennis · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads · 1 Comment

Should you install flooring, wall paint, or trim first? Christina's husband and general contractor, Sean Dennis, chats about the questions you have about home renovation, the order of operations, when to know when NOT to DIY renovate, and what it's like working with The DIY Mommy.

I was able to convince my husband Sean to join me for today's Dear DIY Mommy podcast! As a general contractor, he's a wealth of knowledge when it comes to home building and home renovations. We've done many renovations together and I've learned so much from him.

Home renovation & build projects Sean and I have done together include:

    • our Little Lake House vacation rental
    • my brother's kitchen renovation
    • my parents' house build
    • our own house build

    Today's question for the podcast:

What's the order of operations for floors, trim and wall paint color [when it comes to home renovations]?

    This week's challenge:

What order do YOU think makes the most sense when finishing up a home renovation? Installing flooring, painting walls, and then installing trim? Or painting walls, installing flooring, and then adding trim? Or something else? Let us know in the comments below!

I hope you enjoyed today's podcast, and... Happy DIYing!
