My DIY Studio Update: A New Workspace!

Aren’t new seasons of life fun and exciting? Sure they can be challenging, but I always love a new adventure, don’t you? That’s how I’m feeling as my parents have moved out of our little guest house and are settling into their new lake house (which I’ll share more of here SOON). We will miss them, but we’re also excited that they’ll have their own home and that I get to convert our guest house into my dream studio space! A couple of weeks ago, I shared my plans for this new studio, and you can find that with a mood board for the cozy farmhouse chic space right here. Today, I want to give you an update on what I’ve done to my studio so far.

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by The Brick. As always, all of the opinions here are my own.

My parents have moved all of their furniture out of the main area of the former guest house (which feels WEIRD, but we’re happy for them!), and I’ve started to replace it with finds for my dream work studio. When I first laid eyes on this luscious Ahmar Area Rug from The Brick, I knew it was the perfect rug for the sitting space in my studio! I’m trying to keep most things light and bright in here (save my desk and some accessories), so the cream colour of this rug is perfect, plus the fact that it has a bohemian feel to it is right up my alley. It’s also a great value for its price and OH so soft! Speaking of soft, one of my newest decor addictions is the Mongolian Sheepskin Accent Pillow collection from The Brick. I want one in every colour! I think these pillows are a great mixer with patterned pillows, and they’re just the coziest. For now, I’ve plopped some on some chairs I already have, but they’re eventually going to rest on a statement loveseat that should arrive here soon. I’m keeping the Calistoga coffee table that my parents left in here, because it goes so perfectly with…

… my new Calistoga desk! I’ve always wanted to have a desk with trestle legs like this one, and I love that this desk is solid wood. It will last me for a long time, and I’m pretty hard on my desks! They’re definitely well used. I’ll use this one for my computer work and also some sewing, too. It’s nice and big, and I can move it around for different looks. Originally, I thought I’d face it out into the room with the chair behind it, but now I’m liking it against the wall. What do you think? I’m going to put something different on the wall eventually, but I love the colour of this artwork I already had on hand, and it matched the lovely teal Talbott Ottoman. This Soft Modern chair from The Brick is another new piece that I think definitely gives off a modern vibe. I always enjoy contrasting rustic with modern, and this desk & chair combo is a great example of that. I’m not sure if I’ll keep my DIY cowhide rug here, but I thought it was a fun addition to this workspace area for now.

The entry runner rug on the left will eventually go and the antique wardrobe you see peeking in on the right will either get a makeover or be sent to Mom’s Lake House. I don’t love the orangey oak laminate floors in here, but I do LOVE the white walls and the idea of using a lot of area rugs, so I think I’ll probably leave the floors as-is for budget’s sake.

This wood stove corner will get a makeover, too. I want to try painting the tile in a fun black & white pattern and I’ll definitely share that here soon! Meanwhile, Little B and I have had fun setting up furniture in here and dreaming away. This new season of life has been a challenge for her too – she’ll miss having Grandma and Grandpa close by! – but she’s been such a great little helper as we’ve worked on the studio together.

Now tell me: What do you think of this furniture and my DIY plans so far?
