Our Aqua & Green Christmas Table and Hutch

Our kitchen is usually a noisy, sticky mess (and why shouldn’t it be – we spend so much time here!), but every so often there’s a magical day when I get to clean it so it’s spotless and style it for company. Christmas Day will be one of those days. We have the honour of hosting our extended family’s traditional Christmas dinner this year, and we’ll be serving it on our kitchen table which will be decorated in greens and aquas. Let me show you what our Christmas table decor looks like this year, and give you ideas on how you can decorate your own Christmas table and hutch!Aqua Blue, Teal & Green Farmhouse Christmas Table & Hutch Decoration Ideas

Unlike last year’s Christmas decor, I’m going for more non-traditional colours this Holiday season. Rather than reds and greens, our Christmas dining area is dressed in aquas and greens.

We’re still so very thrilled with our Hancock Park Dining Set from The Brick. We gave it for a “large family dinner” spin this past Thanksgiving, and once I popped in the center leaf the table was oh-so-perfect for our big gathering.

We have three messy kids, I’m a terrible housekeeper, and yet the fabric chairs still look great! I chalk that up to the fact that they’re the colour of acreage mud (which is a lovely colour!), and that I use these sneaky cleaning tips I shared here.

For this Christmas’s tabletop decor, I started with a faux boxwood and pinecone garland that I found last year. I placed this in the center of our table. To make it look more full and more interesting, I inserted some sprigs of faux eucalyptus and some real cedar into the garland.

This is one tip that I always recommend to decorators on a budget – mix real greens with fake greens to save a little cash but still make your arrangements look fuller and more realistic. You can reuse the fake greens and florals for a long time, and you don’t have to spend as much money on the fresh stuff.

I also twirled some aqua wired ribbon through the centerpiece to add a pop of pretty colour.

I found a few really lovely silver candlesticks in store at The Brick, topped them with some candles, and placed a couple of mercury glass votive holders near the garland as well. The silver and candles add some sparkle and warmth to the table.

The rest of the setting is quite simple. I layered some plain white plates over silver doilies, and topped those with some rolled linen napkins tied with aqua candy cane ornaments.

To add some Christmas romance to the dining area, I tied some costume angel wings that were found on discount after Halloween to the backs of the wooden chairs.

Think outside the box when it comes to Christmas decor – you can often find beautiful decorative items in the Halloween or wedding sections of stores!

I think our new hutch has to be my favourite part of this Christmas-y dining space. It’s the Hancock Park Buffet and Hutch from The Brick, and it is just so stunning! I wish I could show you all the detail on this piece in person.

I’ve never had a hutch to decorate for the seasons until now, so it took me a few months to decide how I wanted to decorate this piece and what worked and didn’t.

I finally settled on having a base of all white dishes and serving ware for the hutch, and playing with accent colours in greenery and ornaments around the white dishes.

That’s another great trick that will help keep your decorating budget at a minimum: buy basics like dinner ware, napkins, towels, and sheets in a neutral colour like white. They’ll never go out of style, and you can use them as a base and layer other colours along with them to make a beautiful, festive display.

I chose to add lots of real and fake greenery to the buffet along with pretty Christmas ornaments in silver and aqua.

I’m so happy with this festive and cozy looking dining space and I can’t wait to host our Christmas dinner this year!

Now tell me: Do you decorate with traditional or non-traditional colours at Christmas?

  1. Your green and aqua color scheme is so refreshing! After several years of doing traditional red, green and gold, I started last year buying new holiday decor items only in aqua, turquoise and silver. While I can’t replace everything at once, I am enjoying the changes I’ve made already! I love your posts, they are always filled with beautiful but simple ideas that are doable and affordable! Your dining room looks wonderfully warm and welcoming!
