Our DIY House: 2015 Home Tour

Published: Jun 8, 2015 · Modified: Dec 9, 2015 by Christina Dennis · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads · 52 Comments

It's that time again - time for to give you a glimpse into Our DIY House for a yearly home tour! Please come in, grab yourself a cup of coffee and let me show you around. What kind of coffee would you like? A vanilla latte? My specialty! I've teamed up with some blogging friends who are also opening their homes up to you today. Scroll down to the bottom of this post to click on over to some more inspiring home tours.

In case you are new here, here’s a quick background on Our DIY House: We started building our home by ourselves in 2012 (we lived in an 800 square foot garage on our property previously). We moved in July 2013 and have been puttering around since then and working on the finishing details. You can see our basic floor plan here. We love our new home, but it’s definitely been a challenge to finish it on a budget and while we are raising 3 kids and while Hubby has his contracting business. Welcome to our work-in-progress!

Our DIY House: Home Tour 2015

It often feels like things are moving SO slowly as we work on our home, but I think that's how most people feel with home building and renovations! When I look at last year's home tour, I'm reminded of how far we've come. Plus, we have three little girls that need our devotion and they are only babies once. Between them and our home finishing, we are kept busy!

Foursquare Home with Gray Siding, White Trim, Teal Door

Over the last couple of weeks, my hubby has been working on beefing up our porch posts. I LOVE how they look so far! What a difference between this profile and the unfinished look. I'm going to keep painting over the next week or two and finishing up the front flower beds, and then I'm going to share those with you in a separate post. It's coming along, and the warm weather has inspired us to work on the exterior of Our DIY House and the yard.

Teal Front Door + Gray Siding

I still have this bright teal door and "Hello" decal, and this wreath I made last Fall has found a permanent home on our front door. I like the contrast of these bright pink & white flower pots that I found at Home Depot.

Acacia wood entry cabinet, free map artwork and a turquoise and gold dipped chair at entry

Upon entering our home you'll see a wee cabinet and map art (here's the free download) to the left.

Black Mirror and Ikea Shoe Cabinet Entry

To the right of the entry is our Ikea shoe cabinet and a mirror I found at Lowe's. These are the last of our lilacs from the Spring. Yummm!

    Craftsman Black and White Staircase

Directly in front of the door is our craftsman styled staircase that my parents and I finished ourselves.

    Craftsman Black and White Staircase

The hall by the stairs is where our front closet is.

White, Gray, Mint & Coral Vintage Modern Sitting Room

To the left of the entry is our formal sitting room. I've finally finished decorating it, and these are the first photos of this room that I'm sharing with you today! It's really quite feminine, but I've added in bits of industrial elements with the metal coffee table (from our porch!), the DIY faux cowhide rug and the light fixture.

White, Gray, Mint & Coral Vintage Modern Sitting Room

This settee is probably my favourite piece in our home, and it was a gift when Baby B was born last year. I just love it!

White, Gray, Mint & Coral Vintage Modern Sitting Room White, Gray, Mint & Coral Vintage Modern Sitting Room Covered Keyboard Stand

I made a tailored skirt for our keyboard stand so that it looks more at-home in this room, and I'll share the DIY for that in a later post.

White, Gray, Mint & Coral Vintage Modern Sitting Room

These chairs are also very special - they were a vintage find that my mom reupholstered.

White, Gray, Mint & Coral Vintage Modern Sitting Room

I finally made the DIY floral pillow covers last week. They're so vintage femme!

Gray, Brown, Teal / Turquoise Living Room

To the right of our entry is our family room. Now, normally it's littered with toys and books, but here it is all tidied up just for you! All of the furniture is older from our little house, but I still like it all (especially when it's spruced up with throw pillows).

Gray, Brown, Teal / Turquoise Living Room

Gray, Brown, Teal / Turquoise Living Room

I love to change out the mantel and coffee table decor seasonally. The coffee table recently got a mini makeover - it's the perfect piece to stuff all of our kids' books and my magazines inside!

Turquoise, Black & White TV Gallery Wall

Across from our fireplace is our TV, and I've spruced it up with a TV gallery wall.

Colorful Craft Room Office by The DIY Mommy

My office / craft room is in a corner between our living room and kitchen and I'm still so happy with its location. I can keep the doors open when I need to do a little work and play with the kids at the same time, or close it when I need to. It's a LOT messier right now than it is in this photo! Oh boy. I sense and craft room organization blog post in my near future!

A beautiful vintage industrial kitchen featuring black and white Ikea cabinets, turquoise accents and a Carrara marble stone panel backsplash.

Our kitchen is next, and it's still my favourite room in our home. You can read more about our new marble backsplash here, and read about the drapes here.

Our recent backsplash installation forced me to shine up all of the chrome and stainless steel in here, which is a BIG job! I think it's totally worth it, though.

DIY aqua & red vintage inspired small laundry room design idea with a giant pegboard

Hiding behind a pocket door next to our kitchen is our laundry room. You can read about our recent laundry room makeover here.

Upstairs, Little C's room is in the first corner. It's BOLD and bright and well loved!

How to install an easy DIY beadboard hook wall in a bathroom. It's pretty and practical!

The kids' bathroom is next, and it's THISCLOSE to complete. I just have some trim to do, and then I can show you the rest! Our DIY hook wall has been great for towels and laundry hampers.

A Sunny Woodland Nursery. This sweet nursery is decorated in aqua, yellow, blush pink and chocolate brown and features a ton of inexpensive DIY decor elements.

Little A's room is still my favourite bedroom. She now has a white iron toddler bed in place of the crib, but the rest is the same.

The wall colour just gets me every time!

Soft Boho Baby Nursery by The DIY Mommy

Baby B's room is in the 3rd corner of the house. It's boho themed in soft greys, pinks and yellows.

Finally our master suite is in the last corner of our home. It still looks like this, and we are still working on our ensuite bathroom. We're hoping to finish it... this year? It's one of those things that's at the bottom of our long to-do list. One day soon, I hope!

I hope you've enjoyed touring Our DIY House this year. Thank you so much for coming and having a peek!

Now let's grab our coffees and a cookie and head on over to my blogging friends' homes for some more tours. I can't wait to see some more beautiful homes and get inspired! #hometourhop

Your home is absolutely stunning!! First off, your lighting is AMAZING! I'm a huge lover of unique light fixtures! It really changes a space! Your entire home is beautiful and I really look forward to the tailored skirt tutorial for your keyboard. I teach piano lessons and have a keyboard and would to make it look more "homey." Thanks for inspiring me and thanks for being a part of this tour with me!

Just wanted to say thanks for the insperation. I enjoyed your presentation in Lloydminster at the beginning of April. I love my new red geometric design curtains with grommets and I covered an old gel mat with a pretty brown and turquoise geometric print. I used the looking glass spray paint on an old milk bottle and think I may do a few more since I have a small collection. Haven't decided yet if I will go next step to make it look like mercury glass. After talking to you about the trials of reno's I took a chance and used "Plaster Paint" from "Real Deals" and think I'm going to like it. Thanks again!
