German Baking: Marble Bundt Cake

I finally had a day last week to bake, and it was wonderful. I’ve missed baking. I find it so relaxing!

(Note: This recipe & blog post was originally published in November of 2013 and I’ve now updated it with new photos! So, no, I’m not currently pregnant but I AM craving cake.)

It’s slightly dangerous, though. I’m a huge fan of eating baked goods too. This marble bundt cake I made last week only lasted a couple of days. I’ll say that’s due to my hungry hubby and not my pregnant, cake-loving self. Yes. That’s it.Continue reading

Bake the Best Whole Wheat & Honey Bread

As I’m writing this post, I have two loaves of this yummy whole wheat & honey bread rising in my oven. I’ve gotten into the habit of making a couple loaves every week or more lately, and we use it for our morning toast or sandwiches throughout the week. It’s the best 100% whole wheat bread I’ve ever made, and it stays moist and delicious long after it’s baked. This bread also compliments my diet of avoiding white flour and white sugar – it’s sweetened with honey, and it’s made all whole wheat flour. You can even add extra yummy and nutritious fillers like oats and flaxseed.Continue reading

A Gold & Black Christmas and New Year’s Dessert Table

We’ll be hosting Christmas Day dinner at our house this year, and I’m so excited to have my family over to celebrate with us! I love decorating dessert tables to make parties and get-togethers extra special, and I thought it would be a lot of fun to design a beautiful and festive, sparkly dessert table for Christmas Day. This glamourous gold and black Holiday dessert table idea would also be beautiful for a New Year’s Eve party – just switch out the chalkboard message and you’re set! I’m so happy to have been able to partner with Ferrero Rocher Canada on this project. Not only do we love Ferrero Rocher (a delicious candy with a roasted hazelnut center, smooth filling, a crisp wafer, AND it’s all enveloped in creamy milk chocolate and finely chopped hazelnuts) in this house, but their glamourous gold foil packaging was just perfect for my dessert table idea. Scroll to the bottom of this post to enter to win some yummy Ferrero Rocher for yourself!Continue reading

Bake Healthy Egg Breakfast Muffins

Starting October 1st, we made a diet change in our home. We decided to cut out as much white sugar and white flour as possible. I have thyroid disease (hypothyroidism), and it seems to have been really affecting my health lately – especially my digestive health, it seems. I asked my Dr if I should try going gluten-free, but he suggested to simply cut out more processed foods to see if that helped. It really, really has. It’s been hard, but it’s also been fun to experiment with some more creative meals and snacks that don’t have white sugar or flour in them. One of our latest favourite breakfasts and snacks are these tasty egg “muffins” that are so simple to make and honestly so yummy. I usually make a dozen or two every Sunday, and then I refrigerate them for easy re-heating and snacking throughout the week. My natural tendencies are to grab something sugary or bready for a snack, so having things like these, some cut up fruit and some veggies has really helped steer me in a different direction when I’m hungry.Continue reading
