Make Heart Shaped Beignets for Valentine’s Day

I’ve only ever heard of beignets from the Disney movie The Princess and the Frog. My girls enjoy that movie, and our dear heroine, Tiana, makes beignets in her New Orleans Cafe. Recently, I was curious about what they were exactly, and then when I found out that they were essentially baby donuts smothered in icing sugar, I was sold. We HAD to make these, and we had to make them for Valentine’s Day! Valentine’s Day is huge in our house – it’s Little C’s favourite holiday of the year – so finding the perfect treat for the day is a must. Let me show you how to make heart shaped beignets that I hope would make Tiana proud.Continue reading

Make a Pumpkin Tart with Nutty Streusel

We Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October, and it’s almost that time of year again! I’m starting to gather my favourite Thanksgiving recipes together so that I’m ready to make our traditional meal which always includes turkey, stuffing, potatoes, veggies, and – of course – a delicious pumpkin pie. This year, I thought it would be fun to put a unique spin on our traditional pumpkin pie. I have strong German roots, and we seem to put a crumb topping (or “struesel“) on almost everything. Streusel adds such a great flavour and crunch to so many desserts! What could be better than topping some pumpkin pie with a crumbly pecan topping? I couldn’t think of anything more delicious for a Fall dessert! Let me show you how to make this tasty pumpkin pie with nutty streusel. I think it will be our new family Thanksgiving fave!Continue reading

Make the Most Delicious Country Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

Strawberry rhubarb pie is a comfort food classic. My mom has made them for as long as I can remember, and she’s always had rhubarb ready for picking in her garden. As soon as our rhubarb came up this year (it’s come really early and we’re all so excited), I immediately made the flakiest, yummiest country strawberry rhubarb pie. It was delicious, and so I wanted to share the recipe with all of you today!Continue reading
