2017 Holiday Trends Mood Board with Texture

Brought to you by Texture and TheCo.

I’m already excited and thinking about our Holiday plans this year. How about you? Every year in the Fall I start rolling Christmas decorating, fashion and food ideas around in my head, and as soon as mid-November hits I’m ready to go. I use a lot of things as inspiration for my Holiday style – my personal taste, nature, history, new products, fellow bloggers and designers – but one of my favourite style resources are magazines. There’s nothing quite like the perfect styling and photography that’s found in a magazine, and today with the help of Texture I want to share with you some 2017 Holiday trends that I’m loving this year!

Modern Nautical Kids’ Room: Before & Mood Board

Hooray for kids’ bedrooms! They’re one of my favourite spaces to decorate because they can be so fun and whimsical. I’ve had the pleasure of decorating quite a few little girl’s rooms, but sadly the opportunity to decorate a boy’s room has never crossed my path…  until now! I’m so excited to have the honour of helping one of my best friends give her little boy’s room an exciting makeover. We’re doing it on a budget, in a really short amount of time, and we’re doing to be doing a ton of DIY! Let me share with you the “before” photos and mood board for this modern nautical kids’ room makeover.Continue reading

Mood Board: Modern French Country Patio

Patio season is short here in Alberta, so we really need to take advantage of every sunshiny minute! Even though we have a lot of other projects going on this Spring (like our little camper renovation and my parents’ house build), we wanted to finally make a patio behind our home. We have a walk-out basement that leads out to our back yard, and it’s been a muddy mess for almost 4 years now. With a stack of reclaimed patio tiles that my husband salvaged from a job site, some inexpensive pea gravel, and some beautiful patio furniture from The Brick, we’re going to transform this bare spot into a little modern French country patio oasis to enjoy this summer.Continue reading

Introducing Our DIY Camper : The Before & The Design Ideas

With Canada’s 150th birthday approaching, we thought: “What better summer than this one to go camping and explore more of our national parks!?” The only problem was that we couldn’t justify spending a ton of cash on a travel trailer, and I really don’t care for tenting. The solution? We stalked buy-and-sell sites for months until we stumbled across a 5th wheel camper for $1000. Meet Our DIY Camper.Continue reading

A Boho Farmhouse Dining Room Mood Board | One Room Challenge Week 1

To be totally honest, I feel like a have one billion projects on the go that need to be finished BUT I couldn’t let a One Room Challenge go by without my participation! I’m a sucker for punishment (and projects). If you haven’t heard of the “ORC”, it’s a challenge hosted by Calling it Home where several featured design bloggers and hundreds of guest bloggers make over one room in their home in the period of six weeks. It’s a lot of fun, a little stressful, but very motivating and inspiring. So far, I’ve participated in two ORCs, and here’s a look at the rooms I made over:Continue reading

Mood Board: Modern Industrial Basement Lounge

Basements are an often overlooked area that can add a lot of value to your home if you can renovate or update them. Take my friend Cheryl’s basement, for example. My friend recently purchased a beautiful older home for her family of 5, and she and her husband are spending time to give the entire thing a lovely update. Since it’s a bungalow, they need to use every inch of the home that they can. Here’s where their basement comes to play – it’s the perfect place to create their ultimate, dream lounge area for kicking back, watching TV, and hanging out with friends. I’m so excited to be able to work with Cheryl’s family and The Brick to help turn their plain basement area into an exciting and modern industrial lounge! Let me show you how it looks now, and a mood board with our vision for the space.Continue reading

Mood Board: Modern Rainbow Toddler Room (Little B’s Bedroom Makeover Week #1)

When we built our home, my hubby thought it would be a good idea to design it with 4 bedrooms just so that we’d have an extra. We had two daughters at the time. I reluctantly agreed that having one extra room wouldn’t be a bad thing, and we built our home with four bedrooms. The month that we moved into our new house – July 2013 – we found out that we were expecting baby #3! Our “extra” room quickly became the new baby’s room. We had already painted it a medium grey colour so it could be a flex room, so I did the best I could with what we had and decorated it for our new baby girl in a “boho chic” theme. Fast forward 3 years later, and that baby girl is almost three years old! It’s time to give Little B’s room a makeover to suit her unique toddler style and address some of the storage concerns we have in there. Let me show you what we’re planning to do with Little B’s room, and a Modern Rainbow Kids Room mood board!Continue reading

Mood Board: A Modern French Country Master Bedroom (My One Room Challenge Project)

With almost all of the rooms in Our DIY House done (ish), it’s time to work on a very personal space in our home: our master suite. We’ve left this space until almost the very last because hardly anyone sees it except for us, but it’s definitely time to finish it and turn it into a luxurious retreat for my hubby and me. I really enjoyed being a part of the One Room Challenge this Spring (you can check out the makeover I did in Little C’s bedroom here), so I thought the Fall version of the ORC would be a great way to encourage the finishing of our master suite. I want our master bedroom and bathroom to feel very calming and elegant, but I also want to give them some modern and rustic touches. The look I’m going for? Modern French Country! I love the traditional, rustic elements you usually find in French country decor like linen, cotton, old wood and burnished metals. We’ll make the space a little more modern by introducing a little bit of geometric pattern, pops of black and some sparkle. Let me show you what we’re planning to do to make our master suite a modern french country retreat (in 6 weeks!) for the One Room Challenge.Continue reading
