27,000 Subscribers in 2 Years: How to Grow Your YouTube Channel

27,000 YouTube subscribers. I don’t know if that sounds like a lot or a little to you, but for me it’s a very exciting number considering I didn’t know if I had “what it takes” to be on YouTube in January 2015.

Since I started my YouTube channel, my subscriber count and video view count has risen steadily every month. After year #1, my subscriber count was at 6,000. After year #2 – this past year – it was at 27,000. I realize success isn’t all about numbers (I’ve been blogging too long not to know that), BUT the subscriber growth on my channel has been really exciting and very motivating for me. Today, I wanted to share with you all of the things I’ve learned over the past 2 years on YouTube that have helped my channel growContinue reading

7 Things I’ve Learned After 7 Years of Blogging

Today is the 7th anniversary of my blog, The DIY Mommy. On this exact day 7 years ago, I wrote my first blog post on how to make a diaper cake. It was short & sweet, I took a photo of a diaper cake that my aunt made for me, I uploaded the photo and typed the instructions into my little WordPress blog, and hit publish. I was going to make a blog about making things for babies, and document all of the things that I made for my own daughter who was 6 months old at the time. I was 25 years old, and I was ready for a new outlet for my creativity. I was ready for a fun, new hobby that combined my love for sewing and crafting with my love for graphic and web design. If I would have told my 25 year old self that this hobby blog would turn into an almost-full-time job for me and be a source of income for our family, I wouldn’t have believed it! Let me share with you 7 things that I’ve learned along my 7 year blogging journey. Here are a few huge things that slowly turned my blog from a hobby into my career, and I also want to give you a gift at the end of this post for sticking with me through my blogging journey!Continue reading

I’ve JUST started using Periscope, and it’s SO fun! If you haven’t heard of it yet, Periscope is a live video social network that’s connected to Twitter. You can send out a live stream of what you’re doing or talking about RIGHT NOW to your followers, and they can watch it live with you or replay it for up to 24 hours with their Periscope app. You can find me on there if you search “@thediymommy“.

Early this week, I had an idea that it would be fun to chat with my fellow bloggers via live Periscope appointments and talk about ways that we could help our blogs grow this Fall. August is such a good time to prepare your blog for the busy Fall months, and what better way than brain storming with eachother and sharing some quick tips and tricks?Continue reading
