5 ways to organize your kitchen with Cricut Joy - DIY spice jar labels, pantry labels & tea towels

I recently recieved a Cricut Joy, and it’s been a wonderful addition to my Cricut collection! This machine is much smaller than the other machines that I have – the Cricut Explore Air 2 and Cricut Maker – so it can sit on any surface and it’s easy to move around. My daughter’s especially love the Joy because they find it easy to use, and a wonderful size for the little cutting projects they want to try. It’s the perfect machine to do a variety of projects requiring one cut or one colour in 15 minutes or less. The other great thing about the Joy is that you don’t need a cutting mat! There’s a full new suite of materials like Smart Vinyl that don’t need a mat for cutting, and materials that are extra long for all sorts of project options. I’d love to make a long decal for one of my girls’ bedroom walls one day soon!

I’ve used my Cricut Joy for a few of these organization projects, and it definitely made these DIYs as quick as a flash. Let me show you!

5 ways to get your kitchen organized with Cricut Joy

1: Put spices in upcycled jars with DIY spice jar labels in an easy-access drawer

One of my favourite projects of all time was when I upcycled baby food jars 7 years ago into thrifty storage containers for my kitchen spices. I painted the lids and decoupaged labels onto them, but with the help of my new Cricut Joy I also added some adorable labels on the sides of the jars this Spring.

To make spice jar labels like these, you’ll need a Cricut Joy, some Smart Label Writable Vinyl, and a fine tip marker in Black.

Go to the Spice Jars Project on Cricut Design Space and do any editing you need before sending these to your Cricut Joy. You can delete any labels you might not use here.

Finally, simply follow the directions on Design Space to use the marker to write the spice names, and then the fine tip blade to cut the label shapes onto the Smart Label Writable Vinyl. The Joy does an amazing job of getting these done in a jiffy and I love to watch the marker at work! You also won’t require a mat for this project since the Writable Vinyl works mat-free.

2. Place cookbooks in a wire basket on counter so they stay upright & they’re easy to grab

This simple kitchen organization trick is so easy, but it’s a game-changer. I love having my favourite cookbooks on my counter, but they’re a pain to stack. Placing cookbooks in a small wire or wicker basket will keep them from falling over, and it looks cute on your counters too!

3. Roll tea towels and rags and place in drawers to save space (check out this cute DIY tea towel!)

Another kitchen organization hack? Try rolling your tea towels in kitchen drawers instead of folding and stacking them. It’s amazing how much more space this creates; I can fit at least 50% more tea towels in my drawers this way!

Speaking of kitchen towels, here’s another project I did for my kitchen with my Cricut Joy: adorable DIY farmhouse tea towels!

To make these, you’ll need your Joy, some Smart Iron-On, and some plain tea towels (I love using these simple flour sack towels as a base).

Go to my Modern Farmhouse Tea Towel project on Cricut Design Space and you’ll find these chicken and cow silhouette images.

Send these to your Cricut Joy, and make sure you mirror the design for iron-on. Use Smart Iron-On in the Nature Walk Basic design, or the favourite iron-on material of your choosing.

Use a Cricut EasyPress 2 to fuse the designs onto your tea towels after they’ve been cut and weeded. These towels are so fun, and I love how they look in our country kitchen.

4. Create counter “stations” with trays to keep everything organized

This concept helps me stay organized in my kitchen every day, and it’s dividing my counters into little “stations” of similar objects and tools. For example, I have a cleaning station by my sink with a cake stand topped with dish soap, hand soap and hand sanitizer. I also have a baking station near my stove with my mixer and cookbooks, and then a toast station on the other side of the stove with our toaster and butter dish. Items like trays, baskets and cake stands can help you create these tidy little areas.

5: Put pantry items in clear containers with DIY vinyl labels to easily see what you have

I recently organized my pantry, and it’s made working in my kitchen so much easier! One thing I did was put most of my pantry foods into clear containers so that I could see what I had easily. Adding some DIY labels with my Cricut made the containers even prettier and more easily identifiable. Using my new Cricut Joy, I finally added some vinyl labels to the last of my pantry containers and I love how cute these ones look!

To make these farmhouse-inspired vinyl labels for your pantry containers, access my Cricut Design Space Farmhouse Labels project by clicking here.

Edit the file as necessary (there are even more of these types of pantry label images in Design Space if you want to find more pantry items!) and then send the project to your Cricut Joy. Cut them onto your desired colour of Cricut Smart Vinyl – Permanent, and then weed out any excess vinyl carefully.

Gently smooth some Cricut Extra Strong Transfer tape on top of the decal, and apply it to your pantry containers. Peel off the transfer tape carefully, and your labelled container’s ready to use!

These 5 kitchen organization tricks have definitely helped me keep my kitchen tidy this season, and I hope you find them useful too. I’ve loved adding even more style and organization to my space using Cricut Joy; it’s a tool both me and my kids will be using often!
