Are you craving that fresh laundry scent even when your bedding isn’t fresh out of the dryer? Well, you’re in luck because I have a fantastic solution that will leave your sheets smelling divine between washes! Today, I’m sharing my favorite recipe for a DIY linen spray that not only leaves your bedding smelling amazing but also helps to deodorize them. Plus, all the supplies can be found at Dollarama, making it an affordable option for everyone. Let’s make it!

DIY linen spray for your sheets is actually SUPER easy to make. I love using lavender essential oil in mine because the scent makes me feel calm and happy. However, you could swap that out for your own favourite essential oil. You might like something citrusy like orange or lemon oil! I love that this is a natural linen spray with no synthetic fragrances.

Ingredients + Supplies

  • Baking soda
  • Lavender essential oil (find at the dollar store, or buy premium oil from my online shop!)
  • Plastic spray bottle
  • Rubbing alcohol (you could also use vodka or witch hazel instead)
  • Distilled water
  • Measuring cup
  • Measuring Teaspoon
  • Small funnel (if needed)

Instructions

Begin by grabbing your 500 ml / 16 oz. glass spray bottle or plastic spray bottle. You can find these at Dollarama for a steal!

Add 2 teaspoons of baking soda to the bottle. Baking soda is a powerhouse when it comes to absorbing odors, making it perfect for freshening up your linens (or rugs, or couches).

Next, it’s time to add the aromatic element to our spray. Drop in around 30 drops of lavender essential oil. You can add more or less drops of essential oil depending on your preference. Lavender not only smells heavenly but also has natural antibacterial properties, making it an ideal choice for freshening up bedding.

If you’d rather use this homemade linen spray for other areas in the house, you may want to try different oils that will affect your mood in other ways. Peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils are energizing, while a citrus oil like lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit will feel fresh.

Now, let’s give our mixture a little boost with some rubbing alcohol. Pour in 1/3 cup of rubbing alcohol. This helps to disperse the essential oil evenly throughout the water and aids in quick evaporation, leaving your sheets smelling fresh without feeling damp. As a substitute for the rubbing alcohol, you could use the same amount of witch hazel or vodka.

Finally, fill the remaining space in the bottle with distilled water. This serves as the carrier for our ingredients and ensures that the spray is gentle on your linens.

Give the bottle a good shake to mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Remember to shake well before each use to ensure the best results.

And there you have it – your very own DIY linen spray that’s ready to tackle any stale odors lingering on your sheets!

How to Use the DIY Linen Spray for Your Sheets

To use this linen spray to refresh your sheets between washings, make sure you shake it every time before use to blend all the ingredients. Then, lightly spritz the essential oil linen spray all over your pillows, sheets, and duvet cover. I like to spritz under my pillow, too!

Note: You may want to do a patch test in an obscure spot before spraying this all over your sheets. If your sheets feature fabrics with a dark dye, the alcohol may interact negatively. Place a small amount on the corner of your sheet before spraying just to check!

Pro Tips

  • For an extra touch of luxury, consider using a decorative label for your spray bottle. You can right click on the image above to open up the full size label file on your computer. Then, right click and SAVE the file to your computer. Print it on label paper, and cut it to size to use for your linen spray.
  • Don’t limit your linen spray to just freshening up bedding. It’s also perfect for spritzing on upholstery, curtains, towels, or even in your linen closet or clothes closet to keep clothes & linens smelling delightful. You can also use it as an air freshener by spraying it into the air periodically.
  • If you’re dealing with wrinkly sheets, don’t fret! Simply spray the linen spray onto the sheets, then gently pull and smooth them to help ease out the wrinkles. Voila – fresh-smelling and wrinkle-free bedding in an instant!

This DIY linen spray is a game-changer for keeping your bedding smelling fresh and inviting between washes. With just a few simple ingredients and a couple of minutes of your time, you can enjoy the luxurious scent of freshly laundered sheets every day. So why wait?
