Want your clothing in your drawers to smell fresh & amazing? Well, I have just the solution for you: DIY drawer sachets with essential oils! And the best part? They require no sewing whatsoever. With just a few simple ingredients and some creativity, you can whip up these cute little sachets that will leave your clothes smelling heavenly.

These little sachets are super simple to make (no sewing machine required), and they’re a wonderful way to use up fabric scraps. I recommend using cotton fabric, however a linen or linen blend fabric would work well too. You probably have a lot of the items you need on hand to make these sweet little drawer sachets!

You Will Need

  • 6-inch square cotton fabric scraps
  • Rice
  • Lavender essential oil (or your favorite scent)
  • String or ribbon
  • Fabric scissors

Let’s get started!

Step 1: Prepare Your Materials

To begin, gather your fabric scraps and cut them into 6-inch squares with fabric shears. You can use any natural fiber fabric you like – whether it’s leftover scraps from a previous project or a pretty piece from the craft store. Place the squares right side down. Next, measure out about 3 tablespoons of rice for each sachet and place it in the center of the fabric squares. Rice serves as the base of the sachet, helping to hold the essential oil and release its fragrance over time.

Step 2: Scent Your Sachets

Now, it’s time to add some fragrance to your sachets! Take your chosen essential oil – I recommend lavender for its calming properties, but feel free to use any scent that you love – and add about 15 drops onto the rice in the center of each fabric square. If you prefer a stronger or more subtle scent, adjust the number of drops accordingly. Peppermint would also be a nice oil for these if you want a fresh scent. The beauty of this DIY is that you can tailor it to your preferences!

Step 3: Bundle It Up

Once your rice is infused with your favorite essential oil, it’s time to seal in the scent. Gather up the corners of the fabric square, forming a little pouch around the sachet filling.

Now, grab your string or ribbon and cut it to about 10 inches in length. Wrap the string around the gathered fabric and tie it tightly in a bow. This not only secures the sachet but also adds a cute detail to these pocket-sized pouches.

Step 4: Distribute and Enjoy

Finally, with your sachets assembled, give them a gentle squish to help distribute the essential oil throughout the rice. Now, all that’s left to do is place them in your drawers and let the delicate scent of lavender (or your favourite scent) do its magic!

Every time you open a drawer, you’ll be greeted by the soothing & fresh lavender scent (or whichever scent you chose). Not only will your clothes smell divine, but you’ll also enjoy a little moment of aromatherapy every day.

A lingerie drawer or sock drawer are common places to put these, but you can also put them in unexpected places like your linen closet, suitcase, gym bag, or your cleaning cabinet! I also find the peppermint oil version of these seems to help ward off pests in our RV over the winter. It’s worth a try!

Tip: If you want to refresh your sachets after a few months, simply add a few more drops of lavender essential oil (or the oil of your choosing) right onto the fabric.

Step 5: Share the Love

These DIY drawer fresheners aren’t just for you – they also make wonderful gifts for friends and loved ones. You could gift them on their own, or add them to a self-care gift basket like this one filled with other goodies like bath salts and treats. It’s a thoughtful and practical gift that’s sure to be appreciated. Plus, you can customize the fabric and scent to suit the recipient’s taste, making it extra special.

And there you have it – DIY drawer sachets with essential oils that are easy, fragrant, and budget-friendly! With just a few simple steps, you can transform ordinary fabric scraps into sweet sachets that will keep your drawers smelling fresh for months to come. Whether you’re treating yourself to a little aromatherapy or spreading joy with handmade gifts, these sachets are such a fun craft to try.

Happy crafting!
