Today I am sharing some of my favorite DIY woodworking projects that you can make yourself this Christmas. From luxury bathtub trays that are the perfect gifts for moms to gorgeous, custom signs made using scrap wood – there is something here that is sure to inspire! Some involve building furniture from scratch and some involve adding a Cricut-made decal to an existing wooden item. So there is something here for everyone’s skill and motivation level.

The Best DIY Wood Projects for Christmas Gifts

Simple DIY Bathtub Tray

This simple wooden bathtub tray is an affordable and thoughtful DIY gift idea. It is made with a few simple materials and is a great easy project for beginners. With the simple steps I have shared, you can build the perfect-sized tray as a custom fit for the tub. For a gift that evokes relaxation and luxury, you could even pair it with a candle or some bath bombs. It is perfect for anyone who needs a reminder to take some time for themselves every once in a while.

DIY Blanket Ladder

One of my favorite woodworking gifts is this DIY Blanket Ladder. You won’t believe how simple this project is – there are no power tools required! Instead, it uses copper pipe and wooden dowels to hold itself together. It is so easy to make and looks so gorgeous in any space. Almost everyone I know has more blankets than places to put them, so who wouldn’t appreciate the gift of beautiful blanket storage?

Upcycled Scandi Stool

This upcycled stool project transforms a simple stool into an affordable, scandi-inspired accent piece. You can use old stools already present in your home, or find some secondhand or cheap basics at a local store. Then it’s just a few simple steps and materials needed! With some basic cutting tools, paint, and faux fur fabric, you can make your plain bar stool into something very special and unique. Your upcycled stools will look so cozy and adorable, you might even have a hard time giving them away! They look so great with winter decor and would be the perfect gift for friends with scandi or seasonal themed spaces. If you make more than one, you can justify adding it to your own space too.

DIY Rustic Bench

Build and gift a DIY rustic bench this season with the free building plans I’m sharing with you. This primitive-look bench would be great as an outdoor table, at the end of a bed, or in a mudroom. This style of bench is so trendy right now and makes such a perfect, multi-functional gift for new homeowners, friends who are re-modeling, or just about anyone else on your list! I originally created this bench to live at the foot of my own bed, and I can’t imagine my room without it now.

Build a Simple DIY Boho Picnic Table

Outdoor Parties

If you’re enjoying this furniture building kick we are on, why not keep going? This DIY Boho Picnic Table is small and would make a fun and mysterious package under the Christmas tree! Create this low-profile picnic table that is perfect for summer evenings and casual outdoor dinners. Your gift recipient can dream about warmer days! And, it can be built in just a few hours using some treated, food safe boards and a few simple tools. This project is perfect if you’ve got wood laying around and a hard-to-buy-for person on your list! Who wouldn’t love this gorgeous little table?

DIY Planter Box

For the person with a green thumb on your Christmas gift list, build and gift this simple outdoor DIY Planter Box. This is a great project for DIYers of all skill levels and only requires two tools: a miter saw and a nail gun. My free plans include a cut list and instructions for building your own beautiful DIY planter box. This is a great project for anyone new to power tools, and a great way to add a beautiful feature to a special person’s front porch. These simply-designed planter boxes are fun to make and are more affordable than planters from the store. It’ll be a gift to remember!

Wooden Lanterns

These beautiful Wooden Lanterns are a versatile Christmas gift that can be made for under $10! Can you believe that? These lanterns look amazing as accent pieces by a front or back door and can be decorated with seasonal decor to complement any style. To make them, I used 2 1/2 pieces of 2x2x8 spruce wood. You could make these with hand tools, but they come together so quickly and easily with the help of a miter saw and nail gun. They’re a great beginner’s woodworking project because they’re so simple! Your gift recipient will be so pleased, and they can decorate them for each season year round too! A perfect gift.

Rustic Farmhouse Signs

These Rustic Farmhouse wood signs are the perfect Christmas wood crafts and also make the sweetest gift. Made from plywood, these signs are enjoyable to make and easily customized to suit anyone on your gift list! All you need is your trusty Cricut, some vinyl, and some words you know your gift recipient would love to see on a sign of their own. If you love this idea and are the hostess for the season, you could also make your own welcome sign for your guests. So cute and so many ways to do it!

DIY Fall Cutting Board with a Cricut

Want an easy way to dress up a wooden cutting board as a gift? Learn how to make a simple DIY cutting board with a Cricut! When I first made this craft, it was for fall. But it would make a perfect Christmas gift too! It instantly turns a plain cutting board into seasonal decor (and you can remove the decal when you’re ready for something new). All you need for this DIY is a round wooden cutting board, a Cricut machine and some removable white vinyl. Decide on a cute Christmas saying, an inside joke with your recipient, or anything else you can think to put on a cutting board, and get crafting! This gift is quick and easy and the only DIY required is the Cricut part, so it’s great for a last minute office party gift too!

Make a DIY Christmas Countdown Calendar with Dollar Store Supplies

Do you know someone who would appreciate a lovely DIY Christmas countdown calendar made with dollar store supplies? You could even make one for your own house and use it as an Advent gift for your kids. I’ll show you how to make one that won’t cost you much and that will match your decor (or your friend’s house) perfectly!

Remember the “artist panel” from Dollarama that I used once to make a rustic tray? (Get that DIY here!) Well, I’ve used this piece again, but this time I made a countdown calendar! When combined with some paint, Dollarama wooden letters, Dollar Tree push pins and a golden vinyl decal, this panel becomes an adorable countdown calendar for the Christmas season. There’s a little wreath made from faux greenery that you can move along the calendar to anticipate how many more days there are until Christmas Day. It’s a perfect little Advent gift for anyone you know who celebrates the season!
