Rustic Spring Planter Box Centerpiece with Mason Jars & Hydrangeas

Oh boy, oh boy! Spring is almost officially here, and the weather is starting to get warm and gorgeous up here in Alberta. There’s something about Spring that makes me instantly happy, you know what I mean? It’s the thought of new beginnings, puddle-jumping, the smell of warm dirt and grass… and the thought of…

Make an Easy, Healthy Chicken Dinner in One Casserole Dish

Some nights (OK, 90% of the nights), I want to make a really easy dinner for my family that doesn’t involve copious amounts of chopping, five million pots and pans, and at least that many dirty dishes to wash afterwards. I do resort to frozen pizza or fish & chips sometimes, but here’s an easy…

Make an Instagram Photo Display with an Old Door

Remember my advent calendar made from a leftover door from our house build? Well, here’s what we’ve done with it now: it’s a fun display of my Instagram photos! There’s no hiding that I’m slightly addicted to sharing photos on Instagram, and there are some great memories of our little family on there. I had…

A Zero Dollar Spice Storage Solution

I’m following along this great declutting challenge from Home Storage Solutions 101 the best I can. It’s great! I love how the decluttering sessions are limited to around 15 minutes per day – now THAT I can do! This week, we’re focusing on organizing our kitchen cabinets. Mine are pretty decent since we’ve only been…

Peace: My 2015 New Year’s Resolutions (+ A Free Printable)

I didn’t write down and New Year’s resolutions last year and I kind of regret it. I know they’re cliche, they’re not usually successful and blah, blah, blah, but there’s something about physically declaring one’s goals that really helps to define a fresh, new beginning. I blogged about my resolutions in 2013, and I thought I’d…

Make Hot Chocolate Reindeer and Snowman Jar Gifts – A Kid’s Craft

With Christmas less than a week away, all of the kindergarten and dance class recitals complete, and our home decorated and ready to go, we are taking some time to relax and enjoy the season together. What better way to relax and enjoy Christmas than to do fun, festive crafts together! This craft was something…

A Gold & Black Christmas and New Year’s Dessert Table

We’ll be hosting Christmas Day dinner at our house this year, and I’m so excited to have my family over to celebrate with us! I love decorating dessert tables to make parties and get-togethers extra special, and I thought it would be a lot of fun to design a beautiful and festive, sparkly dessert table…

Sew an Elsa Inspired Frozen Snow Princess Dress

The girls and I have already been discussing what our Halloween costumes will be this year. Believe me, I’ve tried and tried and TRIED to steer them towards something unique like purple unicorns or construction worker girls. Regardless, they were determined and oh-so-passionate about dressing up as what about 90% of all the other girls will…

Sew a Shabby Chic, Pleated Table Runner from a Drop Cloth

I’ve recently fallen in love with using painter’s drop cloth as a decor fabric. It’s such an amazing colour – a cool, grey-taupe with a rustic finish. It’s not TOO rustic (like burlap can be), but it has enough texture to make it seem perfectly fitting for “farmhouse” and “shabby chic” decorating projects. Plus –…

Sew Linen Napkins (+ How to Make a Rolled Hem with a Serger)

Linen napkins are so sophisticated and gorgeous, and they’re a pretty way to formalize a table setting for Christmas dinner. I’m hosting my first ever Christmas Day dinner at our home this year (hooray for a house that can actually fit company in it!) and I wanted to make our Christmas table extra special. I…

Handmade Bruschetta on Flatbread: Two Family-Friendly Ways

I don’t know about you, but lunch at my house can sometimes be a little frustrating. While I’m craving something full of flavour (like a chicken vegetable wrap with lots of sauce and spices), my girls are screaming for the mildest food available on earth (like macaroni & cheese or grilled cheese sandwiches). I’ve been…

Make a Jewelry Holder from a Cutlery Tray

The materials for this project have been hiding under my kitchen table (a.k.a. my craft table, a.k.a. our microwave table) for several months and I finally had a chance this weekend to put them all together and make this pretty DIY jewelry holder! This project only took me a few hours and I really love…

Sew an Easy Beginner’s Baby Quilt

Quilts are so beautiful. I’ve always admired people that can make gorgeous quilts with intricate piecing and meticulous machine-work. For my handmade Christmas this year, I decided to make a quilt for my one year old daughter. I’m a super-newbie quilter, so I thought it would be wise to start with something very simple and…

Make a No-Sew Splat Mat

When babies begin eating solids, they’re SO messy! No matter how many bibs you put on them or how high their high chair, food will make it’s way to the ground. Also messy? A busy little toddler who loves to paint, to colour and to snack. I have one of each type of mess-maker and I’ve found the perfect, easy solution – a “splat mat” (or “messy mat”)! I can place this wipeable, machine-washable mat underneath my baby’s high chair or on the floor for my toddler to snack or craft on. This is such a simple DIY project, and I’ve created a way to make an adorable, unique splat mat that requires NO SEWING!
